The Correctional Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to incarcerated individuals in a secure correctional facility. This role involves assessing patient needs, providing treatment and medication administration, and collaborating with healthcare and custody staff to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care in compliance with facility policies and legal regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Perform initial and ongoing health assessments of inmates upon intake and throughout incarceration.
  • Administer medications, injections, and treatments as prescribed by the physician or nurse practitioner.
  • Respond to medical emergencies, provide triage, and stabilize patients as needed.
  • Document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the medical record.
  • Monitor for signs of withdrawal, mental health crises, or other urgent health concerns.
  • Collaborate with custody staff to maintain safety while delivering patient care.
  • Educate inmates on chronic disease management, medication compliance, and preventive health practices.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines and facility regulations.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, audits, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Ensure infection control and standard precautions are followed at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Active RN license in the state of CA.
  • Current BLS card from American Heart Association.
  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience.
  • Correctional or emergency/urgent care experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment with diverse populations.
  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and de-escalation skills.
  • Must pass a background check and meet all facility clearance requirements.
