Coordinator, Student and Early Career Program

One Year, Fixed Term Contract Position

Hiring Range: $56,000 - $65,000 on an annual basis (one year fixed-term contract)

Placement within this range is based on relevant experience and internal equity.

Position Context: This posting is for a new position.

Working Arrangement: Hybrid, Attendance at the office required 1 day per week, plus in person meetings and on-site for required events.

Position Overview

The Coordinator, Student & Early Career Program, supports the planning and execution of programming, events, and initiatives aimed at fostering connections between students, early career professionals, and global industry leaders in the mineral exploration, mining, prospecting, and development sectors. Reporting to the Manager, Student & Early Career Program, the Coordinator ensures the successful execution of the Student Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop (S-IMEW) and the Student & Early Career Program at the annual PDAC Convention, in addition to other student and early career initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

PDAC Annual Convention: Student & Early Career Program (SEC)

  • Participate in the planning and execution of SEC programming at the PDAC annual convention.
  • Promote and execute Student and Early Career programs, including but not limited to student travel and accommodation funding, 20 Minute Mentoring, Student-Industry Mixer, the Dr. Donald M. Leishman Convention Experience, and overseeing the Student & Early Career Center staffing and activities.
  • Provide pre-convention support, including volunteer orientation as required, staff training, and event promotion.
  • Provide on-site logistical and program support during the convention.

Scholarships, Outreach, and Administration

  • Plan and support student outreach events.
  • Promote and administer programs Field Trip Funding, and provide support for Mary-Claire Ward Geoscience Award, and Frank Arnott-Next Generation Explorers Award
  • Maintain and update faculty and student club contact lists
  • Manage and administrate PDAC supported bursaries.
  • Review and edit content for publications, website updates, and promotional materials.
  • Support the Human Resource Development (HRD) Committee as needed.

Student Industry Mineral Exploration Workshop (S-IMEW)

  • Support the planning and execution of S-IMEW in collaboration with the Manager, theother Coordinator, Student and Early Career, and the Planning Committee.
  • Coordinate on-site participant logistics, including driving students by passenger van between accommodations, workshop sessions, and field-trip locations.
  • Capture photos and prepare daily slideshows or workshop updates.

Social Media

  • Manage PDAC Student social media accounts in collaboration with the Communications team.
  • Develop, share, and promote engaging content to highlight Student and Early Career opportunities and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to provide live coverage and updates during events, such as the PDAC Convention and outreach events.

Other Duties: Undertake additional responsibilities as required, aligned with PDAC’s strategic priorities.

Qualifications
  • University degree or college diploma in marketing, public relations, business administration, human resources, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of job training, education and experience.
  • 2–3 years of event coordination experience, preferably involving logistics and marketing.
  • Experience in the nonprofit sector or the mineral exploration/mining industry is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Skilled in Social Media management
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including copywriting and proofreading.
  • Exceptional organizational and administrative skills, with strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse groups.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines.
  • Exceptional organizational, logistical coordination, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or collaboratively as required in a team environment.
  • Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, and website content management systems is an asset.
  • Knowledge of project management tools, such as Asana, is an asset.
  • Agile and adept learner, with the ability to adapt to new tools and processes.
  • Flexible and willing to work a varied schedule, including evenings and weekends, specifically during S-IMEW and the PDAC Convention
  • A valid driver’s licence, satisfactory driving record, and eligibility to operate vehicles under the organization’s insurance requirements, including being at least 25 years of age; the successful candidate must also be comfortable driving a passenger van.

The successful candidate will be working in a hybrid work model, with the requirement to attend the PDAC office 1 day per week, as well as work on-site during our in-person convention. The PDAC office is located at 170 University Avenue, Suite 800, Toronto, Ontario.
