Description:
The Division of University Advancement (DUA) aims to sustain and enhance the University of Toronto’s academic mission, leadership, and worldwide impact, by engaging alumni and private sector constituents meaningfully in the mission of the University, building mutually beneficial relationships of increasing value and satisfaction over time.
DUA at the University of Toronto is engaged in a transformative agenda deeply rooted in the University’s vision for growth and innovation. We are focused on growing fundraising efforts; enhancing the effectiveness and satisfaction of alumni engagement and programs; building advancement talent capacity within and across divisions; creating an organization and culture that fosters diversity and inclusiveness.
Alumni Relations, within the Division of University Advancement, builds and strengthens lifelong relationships between the University of Toronto and its global community of more than 721,000 alumni. Through programs, events, volunteer opportunities, recognition initiatives and services, the department creates meaningful opportunities for alumni to connect with the University, with one another and with the broader U of T community.
The Alumni Engagement Strategy and Volunteer Leadership portfolio advances alumni engagement by mobilizing alumni volunteers and leaders, delivering recognition and awards programs, strengthening the use of data and research, and building professional capacity across Alumni Relations and divisional teams. The portfolio works collaboratively across Advancement to align alumni engagement activities with institutional and campaign priorities.
In this role, you will coordinate the day-to-day administration of Alumni Relations’ awards and recognition programs, supporting nomination and application processes from launch through selection and recognition. You will be a key point of contact for alumni, faculty, staff, students, nominators and other stakeholders, providing guidance on award criteria, eligibility and processes, following up on submissions and deadlines, and helping to resolve questions and issues. You will work with colleagues across the University to ensure award information, application forms and web content are accurate and up to date.
You will also support the promotion and recognition of award recipients by coordinating communications with Advancement colleagues and divisional partners. An important part of the role involves maintaining accurate awards, nominations and recipient records; producing reports and metrics; and conducting research to support potential nominees for University and external honours, including honorary degrees. In addition, you will support award selection committees by coordinating meeting schedules, agendas, meeting materials and follow up items and conceptualize, organize and execute event activities working in collaboration with others.
As part of the broader Alumni Relations team, you will also help manage the department’s general alumni inquiry channel, serving as an initial point of contact for members of the alumni community. You will assess and triage incoming inquiries, respond or direct them to the appropriate area, and use sound judgement to identify sensitive or complex matters that should be escalated to senior leadership.
Drawing on your experience administering these programs, you will identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen participation and support effective alumni engagement and recognition across the University.
