As a faith- and values-based organization, we hire and serve people of all backgrounds and walks of life - there is a place for everyone to belong here.**Mission Statement** The Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.**Job Description:****POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:**The Cook is responsible for preparation, cooking and of food to the shelter clients in ways that enhance customer satisfaction and for ensuring this is done in accordance with hygiene, safety and food handling standards and regulations and within budget guidelines.**ACCOUNTABILITIES:*** Oversee the effective operation of the kitchen.* Maintain excellent standards in hygiene, safety, and all aspects of food handling.* Ensure all equipment is cleaned, used, and maintained properly and that all storage and work areas are kept clean and orderly.* Ensure all staff are aware of dietary restrictions declared by clients.* Order food supplies and manage inventory, directing the storage and rotation of incoming supplies.* Control waste with good stock storage, rotation, temperature control and menu planning.* Participate in meetings and training as required.**FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:*** Oversees the purchasing and budgeting of food, product supplies, and cleaning supplies.* May be authorized to handle small amounts of cash.**WORKING CONDITIONS:*** Works in a kitchen* This position requires long hours standing on hard surfaces.* This position requires individuals to work in close proximity to others in a fast-paced and sometimes crowded environment.
