Job summary

WestCana is seeking a Part-time/Casual Cook to support residents in Assisted Living at Burnaby. Position involves weekend shifts (Sunday and Monday 0930-1800) and casual coverage, with a wage of $27.84 per hour. Location of work: 3730 Burke St, Burnaby, BC.

Cook must have a valid cook qualification and experience in volume food preparation, plus English communication and strong interpersonal skills. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and a current Criminal Record Check are required.

Qualifications

• Current qualification as a cook with experience in volume food preparation.
• At least 6 months of experience in long-term care, independent living, hospital, or food service.
• Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
• Effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to organize work and operate under strict time constraints.
• Satisfactory proof of COVID-19 vaccinations.
• Passes and complies with Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Check every 5 years.

Responsibilities

• Prepares food that meets or exceeds appearance, taste, and quality expectations for residents, families and clients.
• Prepares and/or monitors daily and special event menus to meet dietary needs and budgets.
• Implements inventory control to maximize savings and minimize waste.
• Ensures all health, safety and regulatory requirements are met (e.g., facility acts, WHMIS, WCB).
• Follows all safety rules and safe work procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Cook Must Haves:

CookResponsibilities:

• Prepares food that meets or exceeds the appearance, taste, and quality expectations of the residents, families and clients.
• Prepares and/or monitors the preparation of daily and special event menu plans to ensure individual dietary needs and standards for dietary care are met or exceeded and costs remain within approved budget allocations.
• Implements and maintains inventory control systems to maximize savings and minimize waste.
• Ensuring all phases of food preparation meets or exceeds health and safety requirements i.e. Community Care Facility Act, WHMIS, WCB, provincial safety standards etc.
• All safety rules and safe work procedures are adhered to at all times.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
