Alberta Health Services is looking for a Cook I at Milk River Health Centre to prepare, portion, and assemble menu items with limited supervision. You will follow recipes, use diverse cooking techniques, and ensure meal portions meet quality standards.

This role supports patient and resident meals, adheres to safety and sanitation standards, and operates within the Nutrition Food Service team in a hospital setting with rotating shifts including days, evenings, and weekends.

Competenze

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Physically capable to lift up to 46lbs and push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs.
  • Walk/stand for the duration of shift.
  • Food Sanitation and Hygiene Certificate or equivalent.
  • Read/Write/Speak/Understand English.

This position will be accountable for performing a variety of tasks to ensure a quality patient, resident and customer experience.Under the general supervision of a Food Services Supervisor, they will use strong customer service, teamwork and organizational skills to:Prepare, handle, portion and package food and beverages.Assemble trays in the kitchen.Provide patient meal delivery and pick up.Safely operate and clean industrial food service equipment.Adhere to safety, sanitation, and food preparation standards in accordance with AHS policies and guidelines.Complete other food service duties as assigned.The successful candidate will be able to:Work in a fast-paced environment with speed and accuracy.Work under pressure in high stress situations.Communicate effectively in English with patients, co-workers, and other hospital departments.Work as an effective, professional team member.Demonstrate a patient first approach as outlined in the AHS Foundational Strategies.Perform basic math functions to measure out food portions.

Description:

As a Cook I, you will be responsible for food preparation, portion and assembly, and serving of menu items with limited supervision. Your typical duties may include preparing multi-ingredient recipes from raw ingredients using various cooking techniques and established recipes, preparing meals using precooked products utilizing various re-thermalization techniques and ensuring meals are appropriately portioned. You will follow AHS guidelines for quantity and quality controls, food safety standards, and established cleaning and sanitization practices to ensure the cleanliness of cooking equipment and work areas.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.Physically capable to lift food, supplies and equipment up to 46lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs.This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift.Food Sanitation and Hygiene Certificate or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Read/Write/Speak/Understand English.

Preferred Qualifications:

Customer service experience.Food service experience.Experience in a hospital or long term care environment.Experience with inventory management; receiving deliveries, managing expiry dates and minimizing waste while utilizing First In, First Out procedures.Experience with Industrial Food Service Equipment.Food Safe Certificate or equivalent.WHMIS training.
