Job summary

Lev Senior Living in Toronto is seeking a Cook for a full-time permanent role starting ASAP. The position offers an hourly wage of $22.42 and requires work in shifts including weekends.

You will prepare meals for residents, review menus, ensure proper food handling, and accommodate therapeutic diets. Prior LTC kitchen experience is preferred and candidates must have a Food Handler certificate.

Qualifications

• Current Food Handlers Certificate.
• Proof/Clearance of Tuberculosis screening.
• Experience in large quantity food preparation.
• At least 1 year of experience working in a retirement home or LTC.
• Ability to read, write and accurately follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to work and teach others as needed.
• Experience as a cook with Cook 1 designation preferred.
• A self-starter looking to advance culinary resume.

Responsibilities

• Prepare foods for residents, and guests.
• Review menus before preparing meals and serve properly and attractively.
• Ensure, practice and teach proper food handling techniques.
• Prepare and serve foods for therapeutic diets according to menus.
• Greet residents after plating during meal service and gauge satisfaction.
• Assist in dish and pan washing.
• Assist in serving meals and beverages per dietary requirements.
• All other duties as assigned.

Start Date: ASAP

Hours of Work:

11 am to 7 pm, 12 pm to 8 pm and maybe required to pick up a 7 am to 3 pm shift from time to time. Working every other Saturday and Sunday.

Requirements:

• Current Food Handlers Certificate

• Experience in large quantity food preparation

• Passion to demonstrate a creative flair for menu planning, food preparation and presentation.
• Knowledgeable of special and therapeutic diets.
• Physically able to lift and transfer heavy, hot items and stand for majority of shift.
• Able to work accurately, quickly, and safely.
• Able to increase or decrease recipes to meet the needs of the facility.
• An effective team player who works quickly & communicates well.
• Must be able to read, write and accurately follow written and verbal instructions.
• Must be an effective team player who works well with and teaches others.
• Must be able to work and communicate effectively with senior residents.
• Experience as a cook with Cook 1 designation preferred
• A self-starter who is looking to advance their culinary resume.
• Previous experience in a retirement setting is an asset.

• Must be willing to visit the dining room regularly after plating and during meal service to greet residents and get to know them and gauge the success of the meal.
