Job description

This is a Casual position to cover for vacation and sick days.

We are looking for someone who is available 11:00am-7:00pm for Thurs, Fri, Sat, or Sun.

Wage Leveling rate of pay: $27.31 per hour until such time that wage leveling ends, then the pay rate will reflect the collective agreement pay rates.

As a Cook, your typical day will impact in the following ways:

  • Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation
  • Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes and other menu documents as provided
  • Completing prepping of dishes
  • Providing for prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures and in portion controlled quantities
  • Monitoring quality of food supplies received and advising team leader of problems and making recommendations about corrective action
  • In the absence of the team leader, assuming responsibility for departmental operations including menu changes as necessary, requisitions and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers
  • Assisting in the orientation and training of new team members
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Must haves:

  • Grade 12 minimum education required
  • A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and/or Smart Serve certificate
  • Experience with cooking in institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check AND prescribed Criminal Records Check.

Bonus points for having:

  • Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program
