Job description

The Cook is a critical role within our communities as it impacts the lives of residents and ignites the warmth of human connection.

As a Cook, your typical day will impact in the following ways:

  1. Setting up equipment and supplies for food preparation.
  2. Preparing meals and snacks according to production sheets, recipes, and other menu documents as provided.
  3. Providing for prescribed diets, at appropriate temperatures, and in portion-controlled quantities.
  4. Monitoring the quality of food supplies received and advising the Chef or Director of problems, making recommendations about corrective action.
  5. In the absence of the Chef and the Food & Beverage Manager or Director, assuming responsibility for departmental operations including menu changes as necessary, requisitions, and purchases food and other supplies from authorized suppliers.
  6. Assisting in the orientation and training of new food and beverage team members.
  7. Attending in-service meetings.
  8. Performing other duties as assigned.

Must haves:

  1. Grade 12 minimum education required.
  2. Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program and willing to Red Seal certify.
  3. One year experience in volume food preparation, catering, and special events preparation.
  4. A valid Safe Food Handling Certificate and Smart Serve certificate.
  5. Demonstrates a positive attitude necessary to meet the goals and standards of the residence.
  6. All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check. Applicable to Ontario applicants.
  7. All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Criminal Records Check. Applicable to British Columbia applicants.

Bonus Points for having:

  1. Experience in large quantity food preparation and cooking in Health, Long Term Care, or Retirement Residence is preferred.
  2. Red Seal Designation preferred.
