Job description

Summit Search Group has been retained by Sakku Investments Corporation on the recruitment of their next Controller. Sakku Investments Corporation is the investment arm of the Sakku Group of Companies, headquartered in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut. Established to strengthen economic development in the Kivalliq region, Sakku operates a diverse portfolio of businesses across transportation, construction, property management, and energy. The organization is committed to building sustainable opportunities for Inuit communities through growth-focused investments, partnerships, and operational excellence.

The Controller plays a pivotal leadership role within Sakku’s finance division, overseeing accounting operations across multiple active entities, including Sakku Investments, Sakku Properties Enterprises, Takjak, and Naukik. Reporting directly to the VP Finance, this position ensures the integrity of all financial reporting, budgeting, and compliance activities while leading a team of seven. The Controller will guide the upcoming transition from Sage 50 to Sage Intacct, manage the year-end close, and play a hands-on role in developing strong internal financial systems and team capacity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the full accounting cycle for multiple corporate entities, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Lead and supervise a finance team of seven, including an Assistant Controller, Accountants, Finance Officers, and Clerks, fostering professional development and operational efficiency.
  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting processes, ensuring timely submission and alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Coordinate and support external audit processes with multiple auditing firms across entities.
  • Develop and maintain annual budgets and forecasts in collaboration with leadership teams across the Sakku Group.
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support investment decisions, financing activities, and new acquisitions.
  • Oversee the migration and implementation of new financial systems (Sage Intacct), ensuring smooth transition and staff training.
  • Act as a key advisor to the VP Finance on financial planning, internal controls, and long-term strategy.

Qualifications:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required.
  • 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, including prior Controller or Senior Accounting experience.
  • Proven experience in multi-entity accounting or small business environments.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring abilities, with experience managing finance teams.
  • Experience with Sage 50 and/or Sage Intacct considered a strong asset.
  • Willingness to relocate to Rankin Inlet, Nunavut (staff housing provided). Previous northern or remote work experience is an asset.
