Job summary

Harbinger has partnered with an industry leader in ICI Construction. We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Financial Controller to lead our finance function and contribute to the overall financial health and growth of the organization. This role will play a key part in financial leadership, operational execution, and team development. This role is onsite, at the head office in Kitchener. Reports directly to the CFO

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Leadership: Develop and implement financial strategies that align with organizational goals and drive long-term success.

  • Financial Leadership: Deliver actionable financial insights and analysis to support executive decision-making and strategic planning.

Team Development
  • Lead, mentor, and build a high-performing finance team.

  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and engaging team culture to drive continuous improvement and professional development.

Financial Planning & Reporting
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes.

  • Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial statements and management reports.

Accounting Operations
  • Manage day-to-day accounting functions including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and project accounting.

  • Oversee outstanding AR collections and ensure proper handling of WSIB accounts.

Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with all tax laws, financial regulations, and reporting standards.

  • Design and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and mitigate financial risk.

  • Manage financial risk exposures, including insurance coverage and bonding.

Systems Management
  • Oversee financial systems and tools (e.g., Sage 300, TimberScan, Procore).

  • Drive process improvements and system enhancements to support financial accuracy and efficiency.

Treasury & Funding
  • Optimize cash flow and working capital management.

  • Oversee debt facilities, lines of credit, and cash reserves to support project funding and organizational needs.

Special Projects
  • Partner with senior leadership on strategic initiatives and special projects.

  • Contribute financial expertise to support growth, innovation, and operational improvements.

Qualifications
  • CPA designation required.

  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, preferably in [industry, e.g., construction, real estate, etc.].

  • Proven leadership and team-building capabilities.

  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient in financial systems such as Sage 300, TimberScan, and Procore.

  • Excellent understanding of Canadian tax laws and financial compliance standards.
