Position Summary

The RPHOA is seeking an experienced Skating Instructor to lead classes in recreational skating and / or hockey skills development. This role involves teaching both group and individual sessions for a variety of ages and skill levels, helping participants build confidence and develop their abilities on the ice.

Scheduling for Winter 2025 Season
  • Hockey Skills (Winter Session 1): Wednesdays, January 11 – February 21
    • Age 4–6: 5:00 – 5:45 PM
    • Age 7–11: 6:00 – 7:00 PM
  • Skating Lessons (Winter Session 2): Fridays, January 11 – February 21
    • Age 4–6: 5:00 – 5:45 PM
    • Age 7–11: 6:00 – 7:00 PM
Key Responsibilities
  • Program Instruction
    • Lead engaging group and individual skating sessions, teaching general skating techniques and hockey fundamentals.
    • Adapt instruction to accommodate varying skill levels and participant needs.
  • Program Development
    • Develop and deliver structured lesson plans that are safe, enjoyable, and effective for each age group.
    • Incorporate both skating and hockey skill development into sessions.
  • Participant Support
    • Provide individualized guidance, encouragement, and feedback to foster progress and confidence.
    • Build positive relationships with participants and families.
  • Safety and Assessment
    • Monitor participant form and technique to promote safety and prevent injuries.
    • Conduct assessments as needed to gauge skill progression.
  • Professional Development
    • Stay current on skating instruction techniques and hockey coaching trends.
    • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities as appropriate.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Proven experience teaching skating, with knowledge of both recreational and hockey instruction.
  • Strong communication and motivational skills.
  • Ability to engage and inspire participants of all ages and skill levels.
  • CanSkate certification or equivalent coaching qualification (preferred).
  • First Aid / CPR certification (preferred).
  • Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently.
  • Successful completion of a criminal record and vulnerable sector check.
Compensation
  • Class rate, commensurate with experience.
