Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Business, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in CI, Safety, and Environmental roles within manufacturing.
  • Certified Lean Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt preferred); Internal Auditor certifications in ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 strongly preferred.
  • Certified or eligible to serve as a Designated Official under Canada’s Controlled Goods Program.
  • Strong understanding of Ontario OHSA, WSIB regulations, and environmental compliance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the site's CI strategy and roadmap, including Lean Six Sigma/Kaizen initiatives.
  • Oversee CI staff, programs, and projects from concept through execution.
  • Partner with Engineering, Production, Planning, Maintenance, and Quality to redesign systems and processes for increased efficiency, quality, and safety.
  • Drive the CI Steering Committee and promote a CI culture via training, communications, and incentive programs.
  • Track and report CI metrics, including cost savings, lead time reduction, and efficiency gains.
  • Facilitate cross-functional CI and lean training workshops.
  • Ensure CI efforts align with MOS principles and corporate objectives.
  • Lead ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and ensure environmental regulatory compliance.
  • Identify sustainability opportunities and represent the division on the Environmental Council.
  • Serve as MOS Advisor, guiding daily problem-solving routines and tool standardization.
  • Conduct MOS audits and workshops and support MOS-related performance metrics.

Job Purpose:

The Continuous Improvement, Health & Safety & Environmental Manager’s primary function is to lead operational excellence, fostering a strong culture of safety, maintaining environmental compliance, and upholding security protocols in alignment with Magellan’s values and the Magellan Operating System (MOS™). This role provides cross-functional leadership and strategic direction across CI, Health & Safety, Environmental (ISO 14001), and Security, including acting as the Designated Official for the Controlled Goods Program.

This position reports directly to the Division Manager and works collaboratively with the broader management team to implement strategic improvements and ensure compliance with all relevant standards, certifications, and government regulations.

Compensation: $79,184 to $98,716 (depending upon the experience)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the site’s CI strategy and roadmap, including Lean Six Sigma/Kaizen initiatives
  • Oversee CI staff, programs, and projects from concept through execution
  • Partner with Engineering, Production, Planning, Maintenance, and Quality to analyze and redesign systems and processes for increased efficiency, flow, quality, and safety
  • Drive the CI Steering Committee and promote a CI culture via training, communications, and the CI suggestion/incentive program
  • Track and report CI metrics, including cost savings, lead time reduction, efficiency gains
  • Facilitate cross-functional CI and lean training workshops
  • Ensure CI efforts align with the Magellan Operating System (MOS™) principles and broader corporate objectives

Environmental & ISO 14001 Compliance (20%)

  • Lead the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
  • Ensure environmental regulatory compliance
  • Identify sustainability opportunities (e.g., waste reduction, recycling, and energy use)
  • Represent the division on the Environmental Council
  • Serve as the divisional MOS™ Advisor, guiding implementation of tiered accountability, visual management, and daily problem-solving routines
  • Conduct MOS audits and workshops; ensure alignment across departments and support standardization of tools and templates
  • Track and report MOS-related performance metrics and support corporate initiatives

Health & Safety (15%)

  • Representative for H&S, lead compliance efforts for ISO 45001
  • Chair the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC); lead inspections, audits, incident investigations, and hazard mitigation
  • Liaise with Union & Management to resolve safety concerns, improve employee well-being
  • Oversee safety training, onboarding, WSIB reporting, and adherence to Ontario OHSA regulations

Security & Designated Official Responsibilities (10%)

  • Act as the Divisional Designated Official under the Controlled Goods Program
  • Ensure full facility compliance with federal security regulations regarding controlled goods and security clearances
  • Oversee onboarding and training programs related to facility security, including visitor control, access protocols, and employee clearances
  • Maintain facility security plans, conduct internal audits, and coordinate with external regulatory bodies as required
  • Manage departmental budgeting, resource allocation, and cost controls related to CI, Safety, Environmental, and Security activities
  • Support capital project planning related to process improvement, safety &compliance enhancements
  • Participate in annual strategic planning, identifying initiatives aligned with operational priorities

Travel

  • 0-5% travel time will be required for this position

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Business, or a related field
  • 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in CI, Safety, and Environmental roles within manufacturing
  • Certified Lean Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt preferred); Internal Auditor certifications in ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 strongly preferred
  • Certified or eligible to serve as a Designated Official under Canada’s Controlled Goods Program
  • Strong understanding of Ontario OHSA, WSIB regulations, and environmental compliance standards
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated experience in managing budgets, leading teams, and reporting organizational performance
