What You’ll Do
  • Write and create fresh, on-brand, and credible written content, ensuring accuracy, timely reporting, and engaging storytelling across multiple platforms.
  • Create original content with strong visual storytelling and brand alignment in mind, selecting, editing, or shooting photos and/or short-form video as needed.
  • Produce multiple pieces per day, sometimes on a tight deadline, while maintaining a consistent content cadence.
  • Pitch relevant, exciting story ideas daily and take assignments from your editor, jumping on timely moments that matter to Calgarians.
  • Ensure all content adheres to company guidelines, including proper sourcing, fact-checking, and compliance with our editorial standards and style guide.
  • Conduct research to support stories, including interviews, event coverage, and tracking lifestyle, travel, and local culture trends.
  • Monitor web and social performance and adjust content strategies based on audience engagement and analytics.
  • Attend events, previews, and openings, creating content in real time or shortly after, with flexibility for evenings and weekends (always for fun).
  • Build relationships with venues, PR reps, and event organizers as a trusted, professional representative of the brand.
  • Stay current on social media trends, competitor activity, and digital best practices to continually evolve content.
  • Maintain a deep understanding and excitement for Calgary’s lifestyle, events, travel, and culture scene.
  • Collaborate with our editorial, social, and video teams, giving and receiving feedback, and helping test new ideas and series.
What You Bring
  • 1 to 3 years of professional experience in digital media, social content, or journalism, ideally in a local or lifestyle context.
  • A curious self-starter who thrives working independently from home and also collaboratively within a tight-knit, creative team. A dynamic personality who is deeply plugged into Calgary’s lifestyle, events, and culture scene with a passion for sharing local happenings with others.
  • A strong storyteller who’s comfortable writing, filming, and being on camera.
  • Excitement and ability to attend and cover local events while building meaningful relationships on behalf of the brand.
  • Ability to pitch original ideas, take direction, and consistently meet deadlines while juggling multiple assignments.
  • Ability to generate relevant and engaging content tailored for social media.
  • Excellent time management skills to handle multiple pieces a day while staying calm on tight deadlines and maintaining a keen attention to detail.
