Job summary

CIBC is seeking a Back end Consultant to lead API design and development within Capital Markets. You will deliver enterprise-scale mobile solutions, coordinating with back-end systems and ensuring robust integrations for iOS and Android.

You’ll work in a hybrid setting, spending 1–3 days on-site in Toronto with other days remote, while contributing to digital transformation initiatives and evolving tech best practices.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of Java/J2EE and Spring/Spring Boot development.
• Enterprise API development and microservices experience (3+ years).
• 1+ year cloud experience (Azure/AWS/GCP) and containerization (OpenShift/Kubernetes).
• Banking application development experience is a plus.

What You'll Be Doing

You’ll be joining CIBC’s Direct Financial Services in Capital Markets. You’ll be at the heart of CIBC’s digital transformation, successfully delivering complex, enterprise-scale mobile projects involving multiple back-end systems. As a Back end Consultant, you’ll assemble, implement and maintain easy, flexible, and personalized solutions that enhance the client experience across both iOS and Android. You’ll lead the planning and strategy for the technical design, development and integration of these applications.

How You’ll Succeed

• Design and Development - Lead API design by analyzing business requirements and following system architecture and high level design. Lead API development following the right design patterns and best practices. Be good at coding complex system and business logic in an effective way. Be good at modern development concepts and processes, both understanding and practice.
• Continuous Improvement - Be the advocate for continuous improvement in both process efficiency and effectiveness, as well as development best practices that ensure quality of work. Be able to bring a positive influence to the team you work with. Having the right understanding of modern technology and modern development culture is an asset.
• Operational Efficiency - Lead next level support for operational activities. Be good at problem solving, troubleshooting and have sound understanding of performance tuning
• Mentorship - Be able to coach junior developers in the team and provide technical guidance.

Who You Are

• You can demonstrate 3 plus years of experience in Java/J2EE, Spring/Spring boot, Web Services (SOAP, JSON and RESTFul). Proven and solid hands-on experience of a minimum of 3+ years in Microservices and API development in an enterprise environment. 1+ years of experience in Cloud environments (Azure/AWS/GCP) and Containerization (OpenShift/Kubernetes). It is an asset if you have experience with banking application development.
