Job summary

CIBC is seeking a Consultant, Back End Developer- Scala in Toronto to lead technical design, development, and integration of cross-functional systems. The role supports a hybrid work model with on-site and remote days, and requires 5-7 years of hands-on experience across Azure, data tools, and backend tech.

You will mentor developers, drive code reviews, and help migrate infrastructure to Azure while delivering scalable banking solutions that align with strategic goals.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years experience in hands-on development on Cloud (Azure), ETL (DataBricks, ADF, ADLS, etc.), Python/Scala, Databases (Oracle, SQL Server, Azure SQL MI), and Tools (GitHub, Azure DevOps, Autosys).
• Experience migrating infrastructure to latest currency including migration to Azure Cloud.
• You are client-focused, goal-driven, curious and collaborative, with strong ethics and a passion for learning.

What you'll be doing

You'll be joining CIBC's Core Banking and Payments Technology. As a Consultant, Back End Developer- Scala you'll lead the technical design, development and integration of cross-functional, multi-platform application systems. At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. To successfully perform the work, you'll be on-site full-time. You'll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you'll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you'll succeed

• Design and Development- Perform and coordinate complicated application programming activities.
• Design the application's technical infrastructure using specific databases, programming languages, utilities, and testing approaches.
• Lead the design and development of cost-effective and innovative solutions.
• Strategic Planning- Develop multi-year technology roadmaps that align with the bank's vision, strategy, and business goals.
• Lead multiple complicated projects involving backend systems, new technology, and the enhancement of existing applications.
• Leadership Skills- Act as the development team lead and run code-review sessions with the wider team to ensure the project is on track to meet goals.
• Support and mentor intermediate and senior developers by sharing knowledge, collaborating and problem solving.

Who you are

You can demonstrate 5-7 years experience: In hands-on development on Cloud (Azure), ETL (DataBricks, ADF, ADLS, etc.), Python/Scala, Databases (Oracle, SQL Server, Azure SQL MI), and Tools (GitHub, Azure DevOps, Autosys).

Have experienced migrating infrastructure to latest currency (Infrastructure upgrades) including migration to Azure Cloud.
