Responsibilities

  • Tend or feed machines or equipment used in construction such as mixers, compressors and pumps.
  • Remove rubble and other debris at construction sites using rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows and other equipment
  • Perform a variety of labouring activities to assist tradespeople, apprentices, and other workers as directed.
  • Mix, pour, and spread materials such as concrete and asphalt.
  • Load, unload, and transport construction materials.
  • Clean and pile salvaged materials.
  • Use a rake and shovel to level the earth to fine grade specifications.
  • Erect and deconstruct concrete forms, scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, shoring, and barricades.
  • Direct traffic at or near construction sites.
  • Pave and rake asphalt.
  • Assist in drilling and blasting rock at construction sites.
  • Assist in demolishing buildings using prying bars and other tools.
  • Clean up chemical spills and other contaminants, and remove asbestos and other hazardous materials.
  • Follow all safety procedures on the job site and report violations to management.
  • Keep the job site safe and clean by storing materials properly and securing the site daily.
  • Perform other activities at construction sites as directed.
  • Estimate costs and materials.
