Job summary

Durwest on Vancouver Island is seeking a Site Safety Coordinator to uphold the Health and Safety Program across active construction sites in Victoria. You will lead safety training, inspections, and daily hazard assessments while coordinating with field teams, subcontractors, and management to maintain compliant, accident-free sites.

The role combines hands-on labour with safety leadership, requires WorkSafeBC knowledge and First Aid certification, and reports to the Superintendent.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of experience in construction safety coordination or a related role.
• Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and industry safety best practices.
• Proven ability to document, report, and communicate safety performance.
• Valid Intermediate or Advanced First Aid certification required.
• Physically capable of performing regular hands-on labour tasks.

Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation of the Health and Safety Program on sites.
• Conduct two formal daily site inspections.
• Maintain safety records and documentation.
• Chair JHSC meetings and safety toolbox talks.
• Collaborate in incident investigations and follow-up actions.
• Provide safety orientations for new workers and subcontractors.
