Job summary

Airswift is seeking a QA Technologist to join a major Oil & Gas client in Fort McMurray on a 1-year contract. You will report to the Geotechnical Operations Support team and perform safe, compliant monitoring of mine earth structures including tailings dykes and waste dumps.

Responsibilities include daily inspections, in-situ density testing, IFC documentation, and reporting. Requires a mining-related technical diploma and potential ASET C.Tech./C.E.T.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year of experience in construction quality control, preferably on oil sand mine earth structures.
  • Technical diploma in mining-related field with potential ASET C.Tech. or C.E.T. accreditation.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with minimal demerits.
  • Ability to carry 50 lbs (25 kg) over rough terrain for long distances.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain communication with Mine Operations, Geotechnical Engineering, and Mine Engineering teams; implement IFC drawings, QMS, and SOPs.
  • Perform daily visual inspections of borrow sources and mine earth structures to support construction activities.
  • Conduct in situ soil density testing using a nuclear densometer per IFC drawings.
  • Compile daily construction reports and upload them to the construction database.
  • Document construction activities, test results, and non-conformances in the database.

Job description

Our client, a major Oil and Gas client, is looking for a QA Technologist to work with them on a 1-year contract. Reporting to the Geotechnical Operations Support team, the Construction Quality Control (QC) Technologist will perform safe, compliant, and effective construction monitoring of various mine earth structures including external tailings dykes, in-pit tailings dykes, and waste dumps.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain effective communication with stakeholders including Mine Operations, Geotechnical Engineering, and Mine Engineering Implement Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings, Quality Management System, and Safe Operating Procedures
  • Complete daily visual inspections of material borrow sources and mine earth structures to support construction activities.
  • Perform in situ soil density testing with a nuclear densometer as per IFC drawings
  • Compile daily construction reports and upload at the end of each shift in construction database.
  • Document construction activities, in situ test results, and non-conformances in construction database.
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in construction quality control, preferably working on oil sand mine earth structures
  • A technical diploma in a field related to mining (Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, etc.) and able to receive accreditation with ASET as a C.Tech. or C.E.T.
  • Must possess a valid class 5 Drivers' License with limited to no demerits
  • Must be able to carry 50 lbs 100 m over rough terrain continuously
