Job summary

Peter Lucas Project Management is seeking a Construction Manager to lead construction across multiple fronts for a brownfield expansion in mining and heavy industrial settings. You will coordinate crews, subcontractors, and resources to meet milestones with a strong focus on safety and quality.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive construction experience in mining, civil, or heavy industrial sectors.
• Experience managing large-scale projects with multiple contractors.
• Experience delivering major concrete, civil, mining, or heavy industrial construction projects.
• Post-secondary degree in Construction Management, Civil/Mechanical Engineering or related discipline is an asset.
• Experience working in active mine or operating industrial facility is an asset.
• Strong knowledge of planning, scheduling, productivity, quality, and cost control.
• Proficient with MS Office; including MS Project or scheduling software.
• Excellent communication skills for collaboration and reporting.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Strong leadership, decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience on rotational or remote mining/construction projects is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership for construction activities across multiple fronts.
• Coordinate subcontractors, crews, and personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and to-spec work.
• Develop and manage construction plans, schedules, sequencing, and priorities.
• Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, engineering requirements, and other resources for successful execution.
• Work with project management, engineering, contractors, vendors, and stakeholders to ensure delivery.
• Monitor progress, productivity, quality, and schedule performance; address delays or constraints.
• Coordinate concrete and civil works, including foundations, slabs, walls, equipment foundations, structural concrete, and earthworks.
• Review drawings, specifications, work plans, and construction documentation for proper planning and execution.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, quality, and project requirements.
• Prepare construction reports, progress updates, forecasts, and other documentation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve field issues and coordinate activities.
• Support cost control through resource planning and productivity monitoring.
• Participate in project evaluations and lessons learned.

This is a major brownfield expansion of an operating gold processing facility and includes the construction of a new standalone processing facility.

The Construction Manager will provide leadership and oversight of construction activities across multiple work fronts, coordinating project staff, subcontractors, engineering, materials, equipment, and construction sequencing to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.

The project is expected to ramp up significantly over the coming months, creating a large and complex construction environment with multiple crews and disciplines working concurrently. The successful candidate will bring strong field leadership and experience delivering major concrete, civil, mining, or heavy industrial projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide overall leadership and direction for construction activities across multiple work fronts
• Coordinate and oversee subcontractors, crews, and construction personnel to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to project specifications
• Develop and manage construction plans, schedules, sequencing, and priorities to support project milestones
• Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, engineering requirements, and other resources necessary for successful construction execution
• Work closely with project management, engineering, contractors, vendors, and site stakeholders to ensure effective project delivery
• Monitor construction progress, productivity, quality, and schedule performance, identifying potential delays or constraints and developing solutions
• Coordinate construction activities associated with concrete and civil works, including foundations, slabs, walls, equipment foundations, structural concrete, and detailed earthworks
• Oversee coordination of reinforcing steel, formwork, embedded items, anchor bolts, liners, drainage, electrical conduit, and mechanical piping associated with concrete works
• Coordinate construction sequencing and planning around major concrete pours and other critical construction activities
• Review drawings, specifications, work plans, and construction documentation to ensure work is properly planned and executed
• Ensure construction activities comply with applicable health, safety, environmental, quality, and project requirements
• Conduct ongoing risk assessments, identify potential construction risks, and develop strategies to mitigate them
• Monitor contractor performance and provide direction to address construction, quality, productivity, or scheduling concerns
• Prepare and provide required construction reports, progress updates, forecasts, and other project documentation
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to resolve field issues and ensure effective coordination between construction activities
• Support cost control through effective resource planning, productivity monitoring, and construction management
• Participate in project evaluations, lessons learned, and continuous improvement initiatives

Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive construction experience, with significant experience in a Construction Manager or senior construction leadership role, preferably within the mining, civil, or heavy industrial sectors
• Demonstrated experience managing large-scale construction projects with multiple contractors, crews, and work fronts
• Experience delivering major concrete, civil, mining, or heavy industrial construction projects
• Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline is considered an asset
• Previous experience working in an active mine or operating industrial facility is considered an asset
• Strong knowledge of construction planning, scheduling, sequencing, productivity, quality, and cost control
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate personnel, subcontractors, materials, equipment, engineering, and construction activities
• Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Project or equivalent scheduling software
• Experience reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, work packages, schedules, and other construction documentation
• Strong understanding of construction health, safety, and environmental requirements
• Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration, leadership, and reporting
• Must be able to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and competing construction activities while meeting project deadlines
• Demonstrate strong leadership, decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational skills
• Demonstrate the ability to communicate technical construction concepts effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience working on rotational or remote mining and construction projects is considered an asset
