The Opportunity

As a skilled Construction Inspector, you will join our Rail and Transit department. You will be working from a dedicated project site in the Toronto area. Reporting to the Construction Site Manager, you will be responsible for inspection, examination, on-site work acceptance and preparation of reports for work progress on assigned construction contracts for a transit project. As the authorized representative of the client, you will ensure that construction work is performed in accordance with the contract plans and specifications, as well as with applicable codes and safety regulations.

What you can expect to do here:
  • Oversee and conduct inspections on construction projects for TTC, including station upgrades, accessibility improvements, second exits, fire ventilation systems, track work, subway yards, and bus facilities.
  • Provide inspection support across structural, civil, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and roofing disciplines; interpret drawings and specifications accurately.
  • Monitor contractor obligations and client responsibilities; assist with the administration and quality control of constructed products.
  • Verify materials and methods to meet contract specifications and safety standards; monitor quality assurance throughout the project.
  • Prepare detailed daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports; issue and follow up on Contract Deficiency Reports.
  • Act promptly on safety, security, operational, or regulatory violations to minimize risks and customer inconvenience.
  • Serve as liaison between contractors, TTC staff, municipalities, utilities, and external agencies to ensure smooth project execution.
What you’ll bring to WSP:
  • Completion of a University or College program in a relevant engineering discipline (Civil, Structural, Architectural, Electrical, or Mechanical).
  • Minimum 3 years of directly related experience in the inspection of large, multi-discipline and/or heavy construction capital projects.
  • Experience with transportation infrastructure projects (e.g. subway, light rail, bus garage) with a transit agency (e.g. TTC, Metrolinx) is preferred.
  • Experience in monitoring the progress of construction activities against the Contract Baseline for schedule and cost.
  • Sound knowledge of construction inspection and management principles, practices and techniques, as well as knowledge of construction products, materials and equipment.
  • Proficient at reading drawings and schematics.
