Job summary

Claridge Homes is seeking a Health and Safety Representative based in Belleville, Ontario. You will support the Health and Safety Department by implementing the company program, maintaining policies, and ensuring compliance with the Ontario OHSA and regulations on site.

You will conduct site safety trainings for staff and trades, maintain training records, and perform regular inspections with the Site Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • 2 to 5 years of construction experience with health and safety exposure.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and regulations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle access.
  • JHSC certification Parts 1 & 2 and safety certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Support and implement the Claridge Homes Health and Safety program.
  • Maintain and implement H&S policies and Ontario regulations on site.
  • Conduct site safety trainings and onboarding for staff and trades.
  • Maintain training records and perform safety inspections.
  • Investigate incidents and support MOL inspections.
  • Organize JHSC meetings and prepare minutes.
  • Maintain on-site safety equipment and safety supplies.
  • Remediate hazards on site as directed by management.

Job description

This role is based in Belleville Ontario.

Claridge Homes Health and Safety Representative

Reporting to the Health and Safety Department the Role and Responsibilities are:

  • Working within a team environment implementing and supporting of the Claridge Homes Health and Safety program.
  • Maintenance and implementation of the Claridge Homes Health and Safety policy and the occupational health and safety act and regulations of Ontario.
  • Conduct and oversee site training for all staff and trades (as needed) as well as safety onboarding for all new staff.
  • Maintain records of training for site staff and trades.
  • In conjunction with the Site Supervisor, conduct site safety inspections (daily, weekly, monthly etc.) and any required tool box talks.
  • Conduct any incident accident reporting and/or associated investigations.
  • Participate in all site Ministry of Labour inspections under the direction of the Site Supervisor and Health and Safety Officer, and support the implementation of any recommendations and/or orders from the Ministry.
  • Communicate with Site Supervisors and provide solutions that eliminate site hazards.
  • Track and review all safety infractions.
  • Organize, participate in and prepare minutes for all JHSC meetings to promote the Health and Safety program.
  • Maintain all health and safety equipment on site (Fall Protection kits, First Aid kits, Eyewash stations, Site signage, Fire Extinguishers, CO monitors, AED’s, etc.)
  • Complete any hazard remediation or elimination on the spot, or at the direction of the site management.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • High school diploma
  • 2 to 5 years’ experience in construction, with 2-3 years of direct Health and Safety experience
  • Understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and associated regulations
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Strong attention to detail with strong organizational skills
  • Dependable, Reliable, Adaptable & Flexible
  • Time management and ability to prioritize
  • Valid Driver’s License, with regular access to a reliable vehicle.
