Job summary

Arcadis is seeking a highly skilled Computational Designer to join our data-driven Computational Design team. You will develop advanced computational workflows for architecture, urban design, planning, and engineering projects across local and international clients.

Ideal candidates translate design intent into computational solutions, driving digital transformation and leading the industry in computational design. Location flexibility includes Canada offices or remote work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in design, computing, or engineering fields; Master’s preferred.
  • Strong Rhino and Grasshopper skills; experience with parametric models.
  • Proficient in Python; experience extending Grasshopper.
  • 3+ years in urban design/planning/landscape/architecture.

  • Build computational models for various projects
  • Build, maintain and improve computational workflows and products across the firm
  • Work interoperably between many different platforms and formats including 3D modeling software, GIS, BIM, and software development environments
  • Work with project-related data sources and formats including environmental, economic, planning and demographic data
  • Collaborate with clients to understand needs and develop strategies
  • Stay abreast of new technologies, best practices, and software applications
  • Build technical expertise across the firm and provide continuing education
  • Communicate technical ideas clearly, both verbally and graphically
  • Create presentation and report materials to support projects
  • Build relationships with team members and across the organization

Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Computational Designer to join our data-driven Computational Design team. This role is focused on the development and application of advanced computational workflows in architecture, urban design, planning and engineering projects. We work on a broad range of local and international projects for both public and private sector clients.

This role is suited for a candidate with strong technical capabilities and the ability to translate design intent into computational solutions. Our team offers flexibility regarding the candidate's location. The successful candidate will have the option to work from any of our offices throughout the Canada or remotely.

Role accountabilities:
  • Build computational models for various projects
  • Build, maintain and improve computational workflows and products across the firm
  • Work interoperably between many different platforms and formats including 3D modeling software, GIS, BIM, and software development environments.

  • Collaborate with internal and external clients to understand their needs and develop strategies
  • Stay abreast of new and emerging technologies, best practices, and software applications
  • Build technical expertise across the firm and provide continuing education
  • Communicate technical ideas in a verbally and graphically accessible manner
  • Create presentation and report materials to support projects
  • Build quality relationships with team members and across the organization
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Computational Design, Interactive Media Design, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Hardware Engineering, or related fields (Master’s Degree preferred)
  • Strong skills in Rhino and Grasshopper with demonstrated experience building and deploying complex parametric models
  • Knowledge of programming languages (Python highly preferred) and experience using these to extend the capabilities of Grasshopper
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in a professional Urban Design, Planning, Landscape Architectural, or Architectural firm preferred
  • Project portfolio showcasing parametric modeling
  • Ability to multi-task with a keen eye for detail and precision
  • Ability to deliver in challenging project timeframes and deadlines
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphic communication skills
  • Eagerness to learn and work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Critical thinking skills to develop innovative solutions

All applications must submit a portfolio showcasing their computational design experience with their application (maximum 10 pages)

Selected applications will be asked to present a past computational design project for technical review

The salary range for this position is $90,000- $110,000. The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
