Opportunity

The NGTL/CGL Operations Engineering team is seeking a Compression Operations Engineer to provide engineering support to enable the safe and reliable operation of natural gas compressor station facilities. The Engineer will be assigned a defined geographic area and will support compressor station assets within that area, as well as contribute to system-wide operational initiatives. This role offers the opportunity to work within a high-performing, multidisciplinary team and to collaborate closely with experienced engineers, field specialists, and commercial operations personnel. This position provides a unique opportunity for hands-on field engagement, supporting day-to-day compressor station operations while developing a strong foundation in safety, operational excellence, and technical execution. The experience is designed to support the growth of well-rounded engineers who bring practical insight, sound technical fundamentals, and a strong commitment to safe and reliable operations.

What you’ll do
  • Perform data gathering and engineering analyses to support issue resolution, facility health assessments, root cause investigations, and risk assessments, with appropriate technical oversight as required.
  • Provide field-based operational troubleshooting support for new and ongoing issues, including site visits and collaboration with senior reliability specialists and engineers.
  • Analyze operational and engineering data to identify underperforming assets, systemic issues, and opportunities to improve equipment reliability and maintenance practices.
  • Facilitate operational decision-making risk assessments for compression facilities.
  • Support the development and execution of treatment plans focused on reducing asset-level and system-wide risk.
  • Conduct alternatives analysis and provide technical scoping recommendations, along with operational support for capital and expense projects, to ensure risks and proposed solutions within annual programs are effectively mitigated.
  • Drive Management of Change (MOC) development and implementation, including contributing to engineering design activities under appropriate technical oversight.
  • Assist in the development, review, and updating of TC Energy maintenance and operating procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Preference to Electrical Engineering background.
  • Registered, or eligible to register with, APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in good standing.
  • 5-10 years of progressive relevant engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate change and help others adapt to a continuously changing work environment.
  • Proven ability to drive short-term and long-term technical solutions to complex and ambiguous problems.
  • Experienced with engineering principles, codes, and standards to identify issue and recommend improvements.
  • Ability to recognize and adapt to changing business priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Broad engineering expertise.
  • Troubleshooting skills, including familiarity with all aspects of facility operation.
  • Failure investigation and root cause determination and interpretation of damage mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with norms and standards related to equipment reliability, safety, and risk management.
  • Time management skills and ability to work independently, including at field locations.
  • Previous maintenance process and system development experience.
This position requires candidates to
  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and provide a driver’s abstract (record) for review.
  • Stay away from home base overnight which will include living in and maintaining company camps or housing (~30% of the time).
