The Compositing Supervisor is responsible for the work that comes out of their department, ensuring their team meets high quality standards and project specifications. Working closely with the VFX Supervisor and CG Supervisor, they establish an approach that considers technical challenges, the Rodeo FX pipeline, and respects the client's creative vision.

They are responsible for ensuring fluid communication between production and other departments, delegating workloads appropriately. Acting as an artistic and technical resource, they coach, train, and provide feedback to Prep and Compositing Artists.

Main responsibilities:

  • Work with the Head of Department and the Production team to plan and establish the workflow and methodology for their specialty, ensuring the best creative and technical approach to meet project requirements, budgets, and deadlines;
  • Make recommendations for tool development and participate in creating tools for their specialty. Ensure tools are tested and documented before integration;
  • Participate in casting artists for projects. Assign shots and sequences based on abilities and levels, in conjunction with Production;
  • Communicate the creative vision and objectives to their team, ensuring responsibilities and expectations are understood;
  • Direct artists' work throughout the project, monitor quality, run dailies, review assets and shots, and ensure work aligns with methodology and client vision;
  • Work on complex shots or sequences as needed;
  • Resolve visual, artistic, and technical issues, escalating to the Head of Department when necessary;
  • Monitor upcoming milestones, keep the team informed of progress, issues, and solutions;
  • Address performance or work ethic issues promptly, proposing solutions and informing the Head of Department of serious or repetitive problems;
  • Maintain a positive work environment and uphold company values;
  • Report staffing shortages and artists with insufficient work, assisting in finding alternative tasks;
  • Mentor team members through training and knowledge sharing, and communicate training needs;
  • Participate in reviews and provide feedback for artists, and assist in hiring and bidding processes as needed;
  • Stay updated on technological advances in their field.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience as a Compositing Artist in the VFX industry;
  • Excellent knowledge of Nuke and/or Flame software;
  • Strong knowledge of Shotgun;
  • Proficiency in photographic techniques including color, lighting, perspective, and composition;
  • Understanding of the VFX production pipeline;
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and serve as a positive role model and mentor.
