Job summary

Job Description:

The Compositing Artist will execute complex digital image compositing tasks, ensuring seamless integration of all elements within a visual effects shot. This role requires high precision and creativity to maintain the artistic and technical quality expected in each project.

Main responsibilities:

  1. Create rotoscoping masks, and employ paint and compositing techniques using Nuke to craft shapes, clean plates, and remove rigs or other visual artifacts.
  2. Work on a variety of shots ranging from simple to complex, managing tasks such as pre-comps, lineups, degrain, grain restoration, 2D tracking, 2D effects, keying, integration, and color correction.
  3. Address and resolve visual, artistic, and technical challenges, escalating complex issues to relevant departments when necessary.
  4. Ensure the consistency of the final composition of the elements of a visual effects shot.
  5. Balance creative and technical aspects of visual effects shots, integrating 2D and 3D elements to produce photorealistic outcomes that meet quality standards.
  6. Collaborate with the Compositing Supervisor and Lead Compositor to develop solutions that enhance shots, ensuring alignment with project specifications and deadlines.
  7. Participate in developing tools and techniques for the department.
  8. Provide estimates and briefs to support production, in collaboration with the compositing supervisor.
  9. Review outsourced vendor work to ensure quality and artistic alignment.
  10. Perform quality control on shots before review/approval, applying notes promptly.
  11. Keep the team informed of work status, issues, and solutions.
  12. Ensure deadlines are met and communicate potential delays.
  13. Stay updated on technological advances in compositing techniques.

Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Compositing Artist in the VFX industry.
  • Proficiency with Nuke software.
  • Knowledge of Mocha or 3D Tracking is an asset.
  • Understanding of photographic principles, including color theory, lighting, shadows, reflection, refraction, perspective, and composition.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and serve as a positive role model.
  • Excellent prioritization skills and adherence to deadlines.
  • Continuous learner, keeping up with industry techniques and technological advancements.
