Overview

The Compliance Safety Officer (CSO) fulfills an important role at the University of Lethbridge as a health and safety advisor and mentor for staff and managers within Facilities. This position is a primary resource to the various departments within Facilities, supporting effective health and safety management across the portfolio. The CSO is responsible for building an enhanced safety culture, while managing compliance with Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) legislation, and the University policies, practices, and standard operating procedures. The CSO will be responsible for assisting all groups in Facilities in designing, completing, and administering their safety programs and documentation, including managing electronic documentation systems. The University of Lethbridge is undertaking a job classification and compensation review for Administrative Professional Officer (APO) positions. As such, the salary range currently assigned for this position may be adjusted as a result of this project.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as health and safety advisor and mentor for Facilities staff and managers.
  • Support effective health and safety management across the Facilities portfolio.
  • Build and sustain an enhanced safety culture and ensure compliance with OHS legislation and university policies and procedures.
  • Assist groups in designing, completing, and administering safety programs and documentation.
  • Manage electronic safety documentation systems.
Qualifications
  • 4 year degree, preferably in the Sciences or Engineering, or 2-year safety diploma.
  • CRST (Canadian Registered Safety Technician) or CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) designation.
  • 2 years experience as a safety leader.
  • Experience of setting up and working with electronic safety document management systems is essential.
  • Working knowledge of the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code, Alberta Building Code, Alberta Fire Code, CSA electrical standards, as well as applicable federal health and safety acts, regulations and codes.
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
Salary and Benefits

Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE): $65,153.16 - $81,963.08 annually

Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE): $65,153.16 - $98,772.99 annually (APO - Grade 3)
