• Participate in team meetings to review progress and collaboratively solve barriers.
• Monitor fidelity of PBSP implementation and data-informed revisions.

Job description

St. Albert Public Schools is seeking a Complex Behaviour Support Teacher for an assignment with Student Services. Working under the guidance of the Supervisor of Student Services, the teacher works collaboratively with parents, teachers, and school teams to support student safety, learning, and emotional well-being.

FTE: 1.0 FTE, Temporary from September 2026 - June 2027

Responsibilities:

• Supporting classroom teachers with programming, classroom implementation, problem-solving, and adapting instruction to meet students’ behavioural, social-emotional, and learning needs.
• Providing ongoing, at-the-elbow coaching and guidance after the school team has developed a Positive Behaviour Support Plan (PBSP) and the behaviour coach has completed the residency period.
• Supporting the school team to consistently implement proactive strategies, environmental supports, reinforcement systems, and response procedures identified in the PBSP.
• Conducting regular check-ins and participating in school team meetings to review student progress, identify emerging needs, and collaboratively problem-solve barriers and challenges.
• Monitoring the fidelity and consistency of PBSP implementation across staff, environments, routines, and transitions.
• Assisting school teams in collecting and reviewing relevant behavioural and educational data to determine whether strategies are effective and inform necessary revisions.
• Building the capacity of school teams to sustain effective programming and behavioural supports over time.
• Supporting transitions between classrooms, grades, programs, or schools by helping school teams communicate and maintain effective strategies.
• Connecting with the behaviour coach, Inclusive Learning Team members, and school teams when additional consultation, assessment, or intervention is required.
• Providing professional learning and modelling related to positive behaviour supports, regulation, inclusive classroom practices, and effective programming for students with complex needs.

Qualifications and Attributes:

• A Bachelor of Education degree and valid Alberta Teaching Certificate.
• Experience supporting classroom teachers with at-the-elbow support that includes coaching and modelling to build capacity.
• Demonstrate strong instructional practices across all subject areas.
• Experience working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to support students with complex behavioural, social-emotional communication, and learning needs.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
