Job description

The future you want is within reach.

At PCL we build the places where life happens and find camaraderie in the process. We’re a community of builders committed to building better communities. That’s why we’re always looking ahead and not just to the next project or what’s next in our industry.

We’re also looking at what’s next for you and how we can help you build a career you’re proud of.

Join our team as a Compensation Coordinator and play a key role in supporting programs that recognize and reward the people who make our business thrive. You’ll gain hands‑on experience with Compensation processes, help ensure data accuracy, and provide day‑to‑day support that keeps our Total Rewards programs running smoothly.

If you’re detail‑oriented, eager to learn, and looking to build a career in HR and Compensation, this is the role for you. You’ll gain unique exposure to the back‑end of how a top employer designs and manages Compensation programs, giving you the foundation to grow in Total Rewards.

Reporting to the Compensation Manager, this role is ideal for someone who is analytical, organized, and curious about data, and who is motivated to grow their skills by collaborating with HR partners and contributing to meaningful projects. It’s a chance to learn from experienced professionals and be part of a team that helps position PCL as an employer of choice.

Here’s how a Compensation Coordinator for our Edmonton NAHQ office contributes to our team:

Responsibilities
  • Provide day‑to‑day support for Total Rewards programs, ensuring employees feel recognized and valued while learning the processes that keep programs running behind the scenes.
  • Assist with the coordination and execution of annual Compensation cycles (merit reviews, salary adjustments, bonus programs), gaining insight into how large‑scale pay programs are managed at an industry‑leading employer.
  • Act as a resource for Compensation inquiries, delivering timely, accurate guidance and building an understanding of common HR and employee needs.
  • Participate in market surveys and benchmarking, supporting the development of competitive pay structures and learning how market data translates into pay decisions.
  • Assist in preparing Compensation‑related reports and presentations for HR and leadership teams, sharpening both technical skills and the ability to tell a story with data.
  • Conduct data integrity audits across HR platforms, ensuring accurate documentation and reporting while developing a strong foundation in HR systems.
  • Contribute to the development and upkeep of Compensation resources (guides, FAQs, forms) to support clarity, accessibility, and transparency for employees and leaders.
  • Collaborate with HR Advisors and stakeholders to ensure practices align with organizational priorities while learning how Compensation connects to broader HR strategy.
Qualifications
  • A post‑secondary diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline (or an interest in growing your career in these areas).
  • Some experience through a co‑op internship or HR / Compensation / Benefits role is an asset, but curiosity and a willingness to learn matter just as much.
  • A foundational understanding of Compensation principles and relevant legislation, and the drive to deepen your knowledge.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a sharp eye for detail.
  • The ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Clear and confident verbal and written communication skills to connect with HR partners and employees.
  • Strong organizational skills to balance multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel); experience with HRIS platforms or Compensation survey tools is a plus.
