Job summary

VON is seeking a Home Helper to provide homemaking services to individuals and families in the home or at discharge from hospital, following VON policies and quality standards. The role involves collaborating with health-care team members to support independence and well-being.

The Home Helper performs light housekeeping, meal preparation, companionship, and reminders for medications or appointments, while adhering to VON values and safety practices.

Qualifications

• High school graduate.
• 2–3 years of experience working with seniors or people with disabilities.
• Post-secondary education preferred.
• Household management or professional customer service experience preferred.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs light housekeeping for clients in their home including dusting, cleaning kitchen/bathroom, vacuuming, mopping floors, laundry, and errands.
• Prepares meals and completes environmental risk assessments.
• Provides companionship and conversation to the clients.
• Provides medication reminders and appointment reminders, if applicable.
• Observes and notifies the coordinator or supervisor of any changes to the individual's/family's home, physical and emotional needs.
• Adheres to the VON standards for conduct and behavior and upholds VON's Core Values.
• Promotes the goals and values of VON and their role as an integrated community care provider.
• Works in collaboration with other staff in a team approach to service delivery.
