Job summary

Catholic Social Services in Edmonton, AB is seeking a Casual (Replacement) Community Support Worker to assist newcomers with settlement needs, interpretation, and learning life skills.

Under guidance of Settlement Counsellors, you will provide language interpretation at orientations and appointments, helping clients adjust to Canada and master essential life skills for daily living.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office, preferably Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience working with newcomers to Canada is considered an asset.
  • Police Information Check including vulnerable sector search current within six (6) months
  • Child Intervention Record Check current within six (6) months
  • Police and Child Intervention checks are conditions of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide interpretation services to clients in their language.
  • Interpret for orientation sessions and at various appointments.
  • Teach life skills and provide hands-on learning to assist newcomers master the skills necessary to live successfully in Canada.

Catholic Social Services is currently seeking Casual (Replacement) Worker, Community Support Worker in our Edmonton Immigration and Settlement Services office. Providing excellent client-centered care, you are confident, thoughtful, and motivated to achieve success when supporting others in your community. Please note that this is acasual / on-call position with no guaranteed hours.

Job Summary:

As a CommunitySupport Worker, you will work closely within a team to support a smooth transition into Canada for our newcomers. In consultation and with guidance from the Settlement Counsellors and Team Leader, you will provide interpretation services to clients in their language. You will interpret for them in orientation sessions and at various appointments. You will also teach life skills and provide hands‑on learning to assist newcomers master the skills necessary to live successfully in Canada.

What This Job Requires:
  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office, preferably Microsoft Excel
  • Experience working with newcomers to Canada is considered an asset
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Police Information Check including vulnerable sector search current within six (6) months
  • Child Intervention Record Check current within six (6) months

In addition to English, you should also be fluent in one or more of the following languages:
