Job summary

PLEA Community Services is seeking a Regular Part-Time Community Support Worker for the Asante team in Maple Ridge, BC. Start date: September 15, 2026. BCGEU membership is required. The position offers flextime scheduling with 16 hours per week and flexibility to choose weekdays.

Responsibilities include assessment, planning, supporting daily living activities, safety, documentation, and coordination with families and other agencies. Internal applications close Aug 28, 2026 at 4:30 PM.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in a related human/social services field.
  • One year of related experience.
  • Equivalencies: 1 year college education + 3 years work experience; or 0 years college + 5 years work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in assessment, goal setting and program planning; document plans.
  • Evaluate client needs and develop short-term plans with family involvement.
  • Help participants function independently in home and community; teach daily life skills.
  • Handle emergency situations and report to manager.
  • Assist participants with medication per policy.
  • Maintain health and safety standards.
  • Review progress and adjust programs; provide feedback.
  • Transport participants to activities such as appointments.
  • Provide written/verbal reports; ensure documentation is complete.
  • Identify community services to meet participants' needs; liaise with agencies.
  • Protect confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Job description

PLEA Community Services is currently seeking a Regular Part-Time Community Support Worker for our Asante team located in Maple Ridge, BC. The proposed start date for this position is September 15, 2026. This position requires BCGEU membership.

Hours of Work:

The usual hours of work in this position are based on a flextime scheduling arrangement, of 16 working hours per week, with flexibility to choose which days are worked from Monday to Friday. Flextime scheduling arrangements allow employees to pick the start/end times of their shifts to meet client needs (the daily straight-time maximum is 10 hours).

Education/Experience Requirements
  • Diploma in a related human/social services field
  • One (1) year of recent, related experience

Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered. The equivalencies for the Community Support Worker are:

  • 1 year of college education + 3 years of work experience; or
  • 0 years of college education + 5 years of work experience.
Preference May Be Given To Applicants With The Following
  • Living experience with FASD, which could be through your own identity and/or personal experiences related to FASD

What You Will Do
  • Participate in assessment, goal setting and program planning such as service plans for individuals. Document and implement the plan. Provide input into the evaluation of the program.
  • Evaluate client needs and develop short term plans to meet such needs with the active participation of participants and their families.
  • Assist participants to function more independently in their own homes and in the community. Assist participants with daily life skills, social skills and/or behaviour management. Teach and assist participants with activities such as grooming, basic cooking, money management, shopping, household safety, pet care. Facilitate physical, recreational, educational, social and vocational activities.
  • Recognize, analyze and deal with potential emergency situations such as participants' aggressive behaviour to minimize potential harm to the clients and/or the public. Report problems to their manager.
  • Assist the participants in self-administering medication in accordance with established policy.
  • Ensure health and safety standards are maintained.
  • Review and evaluate participants' progress and makes adjustments to programs as required. Provide feedback and support to participants and/or their families.
  • Accompany and/or transport participants to activities such as appointments, shopping or leisure activities.
  • Provide written and/or verbal reports regarding participants' daily activities and progress. Ensure that all required documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Identify social, economic, recreational, physical, vocational and educational services in the community that will meet participants needs. Maintain liaison with other agencies, professionals, government officials and the community.
  • Protect and uphold confidentiality.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

  • Demonstrated ability to be sensitive and understanding of individuals' social realities including issues of race, culture, religion, gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, poverty and lifestyle.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues and trends related to the program.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, database systems and web-based conferencing tools.

Minimum Requirements
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Clearance.
  • Must possess a valid Basic First Aid certificate (formerly OFA Level 1) or be willing to obtain one prior to hire.
  • Documentation that the applicant is legally authorized to work on an ongoing basis in Canada.
Considered An Asset
  • Access to a personal vehicle for work-related travel to the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley.
  • A valid Class 5 or 7N B.C. Driver's License and suitable driver's abstract/claims history.
