Job description
Community Support Worker

Wiikwemkoong Child and Family Services is seeking 1 qualified individual to fill the position of Community Support Worker. Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory (WUT) Child and Family Services oversees and advocates for child and family matters by following the principals and ethics of Wiikwemkoong’s Gchi Naaknigewin, Wiikwemkoong’s Children’s Bill of Rights and Wiikwemkoong Community Standards. This will ensure the services are culturally appropriate to support the community’s children and families in alignment with Anishnaabe values and practices. The Community Support Worker will report directly to Prevention Services Supervisor.

Responsibilities:
  • Deliver culturally appropriate, trauma-informed, and strength-based services aimed at prevention, early intervention and family preservation
  • Promote healthy family environments, reduce risk factors, and child protection factors, thereby supporting the safety, well-being, and cultural continuity of Wiikwemkoong’s children and youth
  • Conduct regular home visits to assess the family environment, provide support and monitor progress
  • Facilitate group and community-based prevention programming, workshops and information sessions relevant to the needs identified within the community and through data review processes
  • Participate in community events, forums and networks to raise awareness about child and family wellness, prevention opportunities and available supports
  • Advocate and connect families with necessary services and resources, including parenting, budgeting, counseling, drug and alcohol services, healthcare, education and housing assistance
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of all interactions, case notes, case plans and progress reports
  • Ensure confidentiality and safekeeping of all program documents and records are secured
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training to stay informed about best practices in child welfare and family preservation
Requirements:
  • A Social Work Degree or a related degree in social services field is preferred
  • Knowledge of Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory’s programs and services
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to advocate for children and family’s needs
  • Excellent conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with various office systems and proficient computer skills
  • Ability to understand and speak Anishinaabemowin is a definite asset

Salary – $77,000/year
