Community Support Worker

The Brockville and District Association for Community Involvement (BDACI) is a non‑profit, charitable organization, founded by family members, to work with, and on behalf of, children and adults who identify as having an intellectual disability. BDACI believes in the strength of community and the dignity of belonging. Our communities are most vibrant when we are all a part of them. Our support encompasses every aspect of people’s lives including their goals for education, employment, family support, housing, and recreation.

Successful candidates will possess a combination of the following qualifications, experiences, and skills:

  • Ability to use various effective communication skills to establish strong relationships and rapport with the person and/or their support team.
  • Implement develop and facilitate opportunities to meet people, engage mentors and develop opportunities for connection in community.
  • Maintain ongoing planning with the individual and their support team, including tracking and reporting on goals.
  • Discover opportunities within the community, to develop meaningful involvement that aligns with interests and long‑term goals of the individual.
  • Experience and/or education in Community Development, Social Support Worker, Developmental Support Worker, Child and Youth, Personal Support Worker, goal‑based planning or experience supporting individual with a disability would be an asset.
  • AODA, WHMIS, Valid First Aid/CPR and Crisis Prevention Intervention are considered assets.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Establish strong relationship and rapport with the person at the centre and the family.
  • Work alongside facilitators and families to provide direct support to individuals with intellectual disabilities to pursue their goals in the community.
  • Support those served to build their relationships and skills through work, volunteerism, community connections, hobbies, mentorship, and education.
  • Engage in community mapping, identifying opportunities aligned with the plan and interests of the person at the centre.
  • Demonstrate effective use of online resources to explore person’s interests.
  • Networking with community members and skillful in making strong introductions of others.
  • Develop and implement strategies for meeting new people and engaging potential mentors and community opportunities.
  • Participate in ongoing communication and planning with the family and BDACI, about strategies, successes, and challenges.
  • Days, Evenings, Weekends, Overnight shifts available.
  • Full‑time and Part‑time opportunities. Hours vary between 4-40 per week.
  • Compensation beginning at $25.00 per hour.
  • Hiring is typically based off similar interests of the individual served and the potential worker.

Requirements
  • Qualified candidates will be required to submit their resume.
  • A valid driver license, insurance, and a safe vehicle.
  • A Vulnerable Sector and Police Check verified within the last 90 Days.
  • Full vaccination (2 vaccines and one booster) for COVID‑19 required.
