Job description
Position Overview

The Community Standards Coordinator is part of the Property By-law Enforcement team within the Growth and Community Development Services Department. This position provides service to the general public, property owners and the community, to ensure compliance with a number of property-related municipal by-laws to directly enhance the aesthetics, enjoyment and pride of neighbourhoods in the City of Saint John.

This position works with property owners to achieve compliance with property-related municipal by-laws through education and awareness, investigation, enforcement, and by-law file conclusion. A high standard of customer service, professionalism and respect with every citizen/property owner interaction is expected.

This position works collaboratively in a team environment to deliver excellent customer service while meeting departmental service delivery targets.

Essential Qualifications
  • Completion of a 1-year diploma from a recognized institution related to Law Enforcement, Criminology, Security and a minimum of 5 years of work experience in a similar work environment.
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Systems and a Class 5 Driver’s License are also required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in addition to excellent customer service, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills are required.
  • Must be able to communicate and deal with many and varied types of people in an effective manner under sometimes difficult conditions.
  • Experience with the interpretation and application of municipal by-laws and Provincial legislation; knowledge of the standard practices and procedures of the New Brunswick Court system.
  • Keen observation skills, strict attention to detail, ability to record and safeguard confidential information is required.
  • The successful applicant may be eligible to participate in a Flexible Time Options Program which includes the option of working a 4 or 5-day work week, subject to business requirements.
