Introduction

The Department of Families is seeking highly qualified and empathetic individuals to fill various Community Service Worker positions within the Winnipeg area.

Community Living disABILITY Services (CLdS) is a program that offers a range of day and residential services aimed at providing adults with severe intellectual impairments the opportunity for independence in a community setting to the extent possible for each individual. The population served includes adults who are diagnosed with an Intellectual Disability and who require assistance to meet basic needs withregard to personal care or management of property. CLdS supports that are potentially available include residential and day services, protection services, and other related support services.

Children’s disABILITY Services (CdS) is a program with the goal of providing supports and services for families parenting a child with disabilities in their home and community. Services potentially available consist of case management, counselling, early intervention, respiteservices, summer supports, behavioural psychology and other professional services. Services are provided based on assessed need andresources available

Duties : Reporting to Community Social Services Program Manager, this is a social services position within the Community Services and Supports Division of the Department of Families. The incumbent in this position provides case management services to individuals and / or families who are accessing services in the Community Living disAbility Services and / or Children’s disAbility Services programs. The incumbent is expected to work as a member of an established service delivery team and use sound independent judgement. The incumbent uses the professional application of social work theory and methods to deliver discipline-based services and intervention strategies to individuals and families through the steps of the case management process.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in the social services field. This may include a certificate, diploma or degree. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience within the social services field may be considered
• Case management experience in an integrated services environment that includes brief counselling, conducting assessments, service planning and coordination, resource development and follow-up
• Experience working with children with disabilities or vulnerable adults and their families, providing supports based on the individual needs of the participants
• Experience conducting risk assessments with participants and their family members.
• Experience with crisis intervention and protection services
• Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate or deliver difficult messages or information to clients
• Effective written communication skills to write clear and concise correspondence to a variety of audiences including detailed reports
• Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to interact calmly, sensitively, respectfully and in a non-judgmental manner to resolve conflict effectively with diverse stakeholders
• Excellent time-management and organizational skills including the ability to manage high-volume caseloads and competing demands within a complex and fast-paced work environment
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment with participants, other programs and external resources as well as working independently by exercising initiative within a multi-disciplinary team
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) or similar software applications

Desired

• Knowledge of the Children’s disAbility Services Program (CdS)
• Knowledge of the Community Living disAbility Services Program (CLdS)
• Ability to read, write and verbally communicate in French

• Must have a valid full stage Class 5F driver's licence, access to a vehicle and the ability to travel within the Province of Manitoba for government business purposes
