Job summary

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a phlebotomy and health tasks assistant. You will perform phlebotomy and basic observations under delegation from a registered professional.

You will communicate with patients and carers with empathy, overcome barriers to understanding, and ensure safe equipment handling under infection-control policies, with supervision from qualified staff.

Responsibilities

• Undertake phlebotomy and physiological observations under delegation from a registered professional
• Overcome barriers to understanding for patients with hearing or cognitive impairment
• Communicate with patients/carers with factual information, reassurance, tact and empathy
• Establish and maintain appropriate working relationships with colleagues, patients, carers and health care professionals
• Be responsible for equipment safety and maintenance under training
• Work under guidance with regular clinical supervision by a qualified practitioner
• Be exposed to bodily fluids and infection control policies; follow universal precautions
• Assist in the implementation of audit processes under direction from registered staff

Overcome barriers to understanding, e.g. patients with hearing or cognitive impairment. Communicate with patients/carers by exchanging factual information, reassurance, tact and empathy. Establish and maintain appropriate working relationships with colleagues, patients, carers and other health care professionals.Be responsible for ensuring equipment is used safely, following relevant training, and that it is maintained appropriately. Work under guidance on specified tasks, taking direction from registered and non-registered staff as appropriate, with regular clinical support and supervision by a qualified practitioner. Will be exposed to bodily fluids, infected material, blood products, therefore must utilise universal precautions and adhere to infection control policies. To assist in the implementation of audit processes under direction from registered staff.
