Job summary

The City of New Westminster is seeking a motivated Personal Trainer to join its recreation team at the təməsew̓txʷ Aquatic and Community Centre in New Westminster, BC. You will design and adjust weight training plans, orient clients, and promote active participation in fitness activities.

This position is auxiliary, with an hourly wage ranging from CAD 34.23 to 37.08, plus 12% in lieu of benefits and vacation. Three openings are available; the closing date is 2026-11-30.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 12 with a current nationally recognized personal trainer certification and related recreation experience.
• Knowledge of weight training principles and equipment.
• Knowledge of policies, regulations, and safety rules governing fitness work.
• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology as it applies to training.
• Ability to assess fitness levels and develop individualized programs.
• Ability to build relationships with clients and colleagues.
• Ability to maintain records and correspondence.
• Experience with non-standard hours.
• Police check/vulnerable sector clearance required.
• Active aging/youth experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Develop and modify individual weight training and fitness plans.
• Orient clients to weight/fitness areas and provide instruction.
• Promote interest and participation in fitness activities.
• Listen to and follow up on client concerns regarding weight area issues.
• Ensure safe and proper use of weight room equipment.
• Create inclusive, exciting and unique offerings for the community.
