Job summary

A community support organization in Duncan is seeking a Community Inclusion Worker to enhance the quality of life for individuals. Responsibilities include individualized support, advocating for clients, and implementing community-based programs. The successful candidate will possess a Community Support Worker Certificate, relevant experience, and strong interpersonal skills. This is a full-time role with a Monday to Friday schedule, requiring union membership and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • 3+ months' experience in community support for individuals with disabilities.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Valid Food Safety Certification.
  • Driver's license with satisfactory criminal record check.

Job Summary

On both an individual and group basis, the Community Inclusion Worker supports the quality of life of the persons we serve by ensuring that their physical, social, vocational, educational, and medical needs are met. The Community Inclusion Worker participates as part of the team responsible for implementing all aspects of the participant’s program, including agency policies, procedures, and philosophy.

  • Demonstrated ability to advocate, provide personalized support, and teach life skills and self-advocacy skills to participants and families
  • Knowledge of theory, values, and practices in community living including support systems

  • Ability to perform lifts and transfers of clients
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills

Requirements of the job
  • A Community Support Worker Certificate, or equivalent education and experience
  • Three months’ experience delivering similar services supporting individuals with disabilities in community settings
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification
  • Valid Food Safety CertificationYou will need to have a driver's license, a current and satisfactory criminal record search and driver's abstract, a physician’s health reference
  • Experience using Microsoft Office suite, preferred
Additional information
  • The successful candidate will begin employment at the Next Step building, Monday-Friday 9:00 – 15:00
  • This position is open to all qualified individuals and requires Union membership (BCGEU)
  • May be required to use a personal vehicle
  • This position is subject to backfill for an individual on leave and will be cancelled with two weeks’ notice
  • This position will remain open until a qualified candidate is found
