This unique hybrid role focuses primarily on community health programming, with secondary responsibilities in fitness coaching. As a Community Health and Fitness Instructor at the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick, you will lead the Healthy Living Initiative and Healthy Mobility Program, supporting participants of all abilities, including those with multiple comorbidities, to improve their health and well‑being. You will also provide guidance on the fitness floor, helping members safely achieve their fitness goals. Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee Healthy Mobility Program (HMP) classes, ensuring exercises are performed safely and effectively for participants of all abilities.
  • Conduct participant intake assessments, including vitals, medical history, risk evaluation, and functional assessments.
  • Assist the Community Health Manager (CHM) with day‑to‑day administration of the Healthy Living Initiative (HLI) and HMP, including contacting registrants and healthcare providers, maintaining participant records, conducting research, and assisting with educational presentations.
  • Support the administration and supervision of student placements (medical, nursing, health, or related students).
  • Engage with participants and members in a supportive, professional manner to improve health outcomes, foster social connection, and promote overall wellness.
  • Collaborate with YMCA fitness professionals and program managers to develop in‑person or blended exercise and education programs for participants managing chronic health conditions.
  • Provide guidance and instruction to members on the fitness floor, including demonstrations and personalized training sessions.
  • Monitor fitness equipment and floor safety, ensuring accessibility and proper usage.
  • Deliver safe and effective instruction for individual and group fitness activities.
  • Respond promptly to member needs and concerns with professionalism and care.
  • Support special events and maintain a welcoming, clean fitness environment.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop innovative programs aligned with member feedback and current fitness trends.

  • Experience conducting fitness or health assessments and developing exercise programs.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and provide excellent member support.
  • Flexible availability, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
