POSITION OVERVIEW
The Communications Manager is responsible for developing and implementing effective strategies to promote and enhance the success of the company. You will play a key role in driving revenue growth, increasing market share, and building strong stakeholder relationships. You will oversee communications and marketing initiatives company-wide, manage a team, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives.
Strategy & Business Development
- Develop comprehensive communications and marketing plans and strategies to meet organizational goals and objectives.
- Conduct research and analysis to prioritize target markets and audiences. Monitor the competitive landscape and protect intellectual property.
- Create and execute strategies for effectively communicating with and marketing to priority markets and audiences.
- Identify emerging trends and opportunities for innovation and market penetration. Create go-to-market and in-market marketing & communications strategies.
Brand Management
- Develop and maintain brand identity and positioning in line with overall marketing and communications strategy.
- Create, communicate and uphold overarching and market-specific key messages.
- Ensure brand and messaging consistency across assets, channels and materials.
Creative and Content
- Develop and implement creative strategies and assets across channels. Adapt tactics and assets for individual markets and audiences.
- Track, communicate, and archive deployment information.
- Oversee website and social media management. Track and analyze traffic and engagement.
- Stay up-to-date with trends and technologies, and apply them for improved effectiveness.
Campaigns
- Assess opportunities for advertising, paid PR, sponsorships and community initiatives. Make recommendations based on budget and alignment with business strategy and objectives.
- Plan and execute communications and marketing campaigns.
- Coordinate with colleagues and partners to develop collateral and materials that effectively communicate technical concepts to a range of audiences.
Events
- Plan and execute events, including capabilities demonstrations and other events the company is hosting or sponsoring.
- Maintain brand integrity via appropriate merchandise selections.
- Monitor effectiveness and participate in related “After Action Reviews”.
External Communications
- Prepare presentation, speech materials and letters for senior leadership.
- Monitor materials and presentations prepared by other departments to ensure consistency in corporate messaging and communications strategy.
- Assist with the preparation of pitches, tenders, bids and Requests For Proposal as needed.
Media Management
- Oversee media relations. Develop and manage media relationships.
- Identify and create appropriate media opportunities for the company.
- Respond to media inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Write and distribute media assets, including press releases, key messages, Q&As and 1-pagers.
- Coach and accompany spokespersons for media interviews and interactions. Maintain media coverage archive.
Personnel Management
- Lead a team of professionals. Set performance objectives, provide feedback, and support career development.
- Identify, hire and manage third-party agencies, vendors and contractors as applicable.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance work culture within the team.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business development, operations & logistics, training, events, finance & administration, to align activities with business objectives.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, public service contacts, customers, and industry influencers.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of proven experience, preferably in a similar industry or sector.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of communications and marketing principles, strategies, and best practices.
- Demonstrated expertise in messaging creation and deployment.
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to interpret data and insights.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- First-class writing and presentation skills.
- Creative thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
This is a full-time, in-office position based at our corporate headquarters in Red Deer, Alberta. Some travel may be required.
