This position provides communications and content creation support, as well as on‑site event support, for the UBC Public Humanities Hub. The Communications Assistant will have demonstrated interest and experience in digital content creation, new media, event promotions, social media, newsletters, website updates and accessible and inclusive communications. The main purpose of this role is to develop social media content, monthly newsletters, website content (primarily news items and event listings), public facing research materials, and print and digital assets. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, designer and editor with familiarity with copywriting across multiple platforms. Organizational Status Reports directly to the Arts Research Centres Administrator and works closely with the Public Humanities Hub Director, the Senior Program Assistant, and other hourly staff. The Comms Assistant may also work with the ASC Communications team to ensure adherence to Arts and UBC brand guidelines and communications best practices and to support a coordinated approach to the faculty‑wide editorial strategy.
Must exercise judgment based on confidential and time‑sensitive information. Errors in details of event times, locations, etc., may result in attendees missing events. Errors in judgment regarding photo permissions may result in breach of event attendees’ privacy. Errors or incorrect decisions can have significant adverse impact on all parties and the Public Humanities Hub’s reputation.
The Communications Assistant reports directly to the Arts Research Centres Administrator, and works closely with the Public Humanities Hub Director and Senior Program Assistant.
This role does not involve a supervisory component.
