About Our Client

Our client is a Canadian business specializing in protein procurement and supply chain services.

Position Scope

The Commodity Trader/Sales and Procurement Specialist will play a key role in growing company profitability by creating strong connections with suppliers, customers, and industry partners while adhering to company culture and values. This position is responsible for managing and expanding supplier and customer accounts, developing new trade opportunities, and providing inside sales, operational, and administrative support as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and grow supplier and customer accounts, including purchasing, sales, and relationship management.
  • Maintain regular contact with customers, suppliers, and partners to secure new business.
  • Build and sustain a strong network with suppliers, customers, key industry processors and food manufacturers.
  • Adhere to company sales and profitability targets.
  • Monitor sales versus targets and ensure product is purchased to fulfill all sales requirements.
  • Develop and implement individual account plans for suppliers and customers.
  • Provide monthly updates to annual sales plans at the account level.
  • Identify and build new customer, supplier, and product base opportunities.
  • Create and submit monthly and annual sales projection reports based on existing and new sales.
  • Work directly with team members to develop and build new trade opportunities.
  • Manage accounts as they transition into Polaris Food Company and provide weekly updates on new business implementation.
  • Ensure all trading inventory is current.
  • Learn existing programs and systems and establish familiarity with company processes.
  • Provide inside sales, operational and administrative support.
  • Provide back-up to operations and sales coordination as needed.
  • Attend meetings and collaborate effectively with team members to ensure seamless coverage and operational support.
  • Lead by example in quality, continuous improvement, and customer responsiveness.
  • Uphold company mission, culture, and ethics in all interactions.
  • Support the Executive Team and promote team and departmental effectiveness through respect and collaboration.
  • Contribute individual talents and knowledge toward team and company success.
Required Skills and Knowledge
  • Proven ability to manage full sales and procurement cycles, including supplier sourcing, contract negotiation, order execution, and customer relationship management.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience developing and monitoring sales forecasts, profit margins, and account performance metrics.
  • Demonstrated understanding of commodity trading principles, pricing structures, and inventory management practices within food or ingredient categories.
  • Advanced proficiency with reporting, data analysis, and process optimization.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to secure new business and maintain long‑term partnerships with suppliers and customers.
  • Strong organizational discipline to manage multiple accounts, track targets, and ensure compliance with company policies and trading standards.
  • Commitment to quality assurance, continuous improvement, and customer responsiveness in all aspects of sales and operations.
  • Professional presence and ability to represent Polaris Food Company with integrity and credibility across all stakeholder interactions.
  • Team‑oriented mindset with a focus on collaboration, problem‑solving, and knowledge sharing across departments.

Education and Experience
  • Post‑secondary education preferred.
  • Prior experience in sales, procurement, or trading within the food or commodity industry is an asset (preferably protein).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage supplier and customer relationships effectively.
  • Experience in developing account plans and achieving sales and profitability targets preferred.
