Job summary

Bronswerk Group in Vancouver seeks a Commissioning Automation Technician to join the In-Service Support team. You will work with the Lead Commissioning Technician to commission, troubleshoot, repair, and program PLC-based control systems for Marine HVAC-R on large vessels, ensuring safe, reliable operation during installation and start‑up.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in HVAC/controls or equivalent technical education.
  • Experience with PLCs, industrial controls, and HMIs.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Electric for panel layouts (asset).
  • Strong English communication skills; willingness to travel up to 15%.

Responsibilities

  • End-to-end testing, downloading programming, starting up, commissioning, and servicing on assigned projects.
  • Quality checks of control panel assemblies including point-to-point testing, torque checks, and cable size validation.
  • Provide input to the project manager on forecast of schedule for commissioning.
  • Submit red line drawings to the Automation & Controls Manager.
  • Troubleshoot PLC programming to comply with the approved control philosophy (sequence of operation).
  • Troubleshoot HMI pages during start-up.
  • Check calibration of system sensors and transmitters.
  • Fill out commissioning documentation.
  • Collaborate with Refrigeration and HVAC teams to start-up various HVAC-R systems.
  • Enforce safety standards and maintain asset security.

Job description

What will be your role?

Reporting to the In-Service Support Manager, the Commissioning Automation Technician will work closely with the Lead Commissioning Automation Technician to commission (using PLC based control and HMI), troubleshoot, repair, and program control systems for Marine HVAC for Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC-R) systems installed in large marine vessels.

The incumbent will play an important role as part of the Vancouver team to act as company "expert" in Electrical Systems during installation, set to work (commissioning), troubleshooting, repairing and programming control systems in vessels.

Project Execution
  • Responsible for end-to-end testing, downloading programming, starting up, commissioning, and servicing on assigned projects.

  • Continually enforces safety to the highest standards and maintains security and accountability of company issued and procured assets by recording use, wear, and conditions.
Which candidate profile are we looking for?
  • 5 years + of experience in HVAC/Controls; or equivalent combination of education (Technical School)
  • Industrial Electrician or other equivalent Electrical trade (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience with various PLC, Industrial controls systems, and HMI's
  • Familiar or have a strong interest in HVAC Systems (Fans, pumps, AHU's, Chillers & Refrigeration systems)
  • Experience in drawing panel layouts in AutoCAD Electric (or other software) - an asset
  • Excellent English oral and written communication skills
  • Red seal or registered apprentice - an asset.
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 15%
