Responsibilities
As a Collection Direct Health Measures Specialist you will be expected to perform direct health measures on diverse populations following standard protocols, calibrate measurement equipment, interpret results, communicate findings to the public, and support operational tasks as required.
Eligibility and Qualifications
- Education (Stream 1) – Degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education, Nursing Science or another relevant specialization.
- Education (Stream 2) – Diploma in medical laboratory technology or in a medical laboratory assistant program.
- Experience (Stream 1)
- Recent experience performing direct health measures on adults, children, individuals with physical or mental limitations or the elderly following standardized procedures.
- Experience setting up, calibrating and maintaining physical measurement testing equipment.
- Experience interpreting direct health measure test results and explaining them to the general public.
- Experience (Stream 2)
- Recent experience performing direct health measures on adults, children, individuals with physical or mental limitations or the elderly following standardized procedures.
- Recent experience working in a laboratory processing and analyzing biological specimens such as blood and urine.
- Minimum of twelve (12) months experience performing human phlebotomy following standardized procedures on a variety of populations such as children, the elderly and individuals with physical or mental limitations.
- Recent is defined as having performed the duties within the last five (5) years.
- Language – Bilingual imperative (English and French). English or French is essential.
- Knowledge (Stream 1 and 2)
- Knowledge of the theory, principles and practice of physical measures tests.
- Knowledge of a variety of physical measures testing protocols and how to interpret the test results.
- Knowledge (Stream 2 only)
- Knowledge of the operation of laboratory equipment.
- Knowledge of the quality control concepts and procedures related to processing biological specimens.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and procedures.

- Organizational Needs (both streams)
- Maintenance of a valid First Aid certification including CPR‑C and AED provided by Statistics Canada.
- Transport of Dangerous Goods (TDG) certification for class 6.2, within 3 months of the start of employment.
- Organizational Needs (Stream 2 only)
- WHMIS certification, within 3 months of the start of employment.
- Conditions of Employment
- Reliability Status security clearance.
- Required to report to the Examination Centre location and must be available for continuous travel across Canada. The Examination Centre may relocate approximately every six weeks; staff generally receive a weekend home visit every three weeks for a total of four days, including travel time.
- Must be willing to work shifts (evenings, weekends), statutory holidays, and overtime based on operational needs.
- Must possess a valid Canadian driver’s license.
- Stream 1 – Maintenance of a valid certification through the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology as a Certified Personal Trainer ® (CPT) or Certified Exercise Physiologist ® (CEP); must be CSEP certified within 6 months of start of employment, a registered nurse or another relevant certification.
- Stream 2 – Maintenance of a valid certification from the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science as a Medical Laboratory Technologist / Assistant or the equivalent provincial certification.
