General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada invites student engineers to join our Sonar Systems team for hands-on testing work in a defence context. You will assist in requirements analysis, test design, and verification of Sonar and Sonobuoy Processors while learning under experienced mentors.

You must be enrolled in a recognized Canadian university and eligible for a co-op work term. The position is paid hourly at about CAD 24.92–CAD 33.23, with quarterly pay increases and opportunities for future

• Assist in developing technical documentation; and
• Operate and maintain test simulators and equipment.

Job Description

Our Sonar Systems team plays a pivotal role in General Dynamics, driving innovation and excellence in Sonar and Sonobuoy Processing Systems. As a Sonar Systems team member, you will assist in carrying out activities such as requirements analysis, software test design, and performing software/systems testing on Sonar and Sonobuoy Processors.

In this role you can expect to:

Qualifications

What You Need to Have to Succeed

• Enrolled as a student in a Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or other applicable scientific discipline at a recognized university program.
• Positive approach to learning and trying new things.
• Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
• Excellent communication

What Makes You Stand Out

• Some project based experience with particular emphasis in the testing role would be an asset
• Working knowledge of formal software lifecycle;
• Experience with Unix-like operating systems;
• Knowledge of DOORS or other requirement management tool would be an asset;
• Practical knowledge of Matlab would be an asset.
• Knowledge and experience with Git or other software configuration management
• Knowledge and experience with RTC, JIRA, or other bug/issue tracking tool would be an asset;
• Development in CIC++ or Python would be an asset
• Experience working with or familiarity with AI/ML models is preferred.

It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems–Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. Compensation

The expected hourly rate for this position is $24.92 - $33.23. Final compensation will be determined based on your relevant work experience to date. As part of student placement, you will be eligible for quarterly pay increases.
