Job summary

Savage Arms Canada Inc. is hiring a Senior CNC Programmer & Setup Technician to join the manufacturing team in Lakefield, Ontario. You will develop and optimize CNC programs for complex components, set up and qualify machines, and ensure production runs meet specifications.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a CNC Programmer, Setup Technician, or Maintenance Technician, preferably in firearms industry or related field.
  • Associate degree in Manufacturing Technology, CNC Programming, or related field preferred.
  • Post-secondary education in machining with experience in manual and semi-automated tools and machines.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, SolidWorks) and G-code programming.
  • In-depth knowledge of CNC machines (mills, lathes, multi-axis centers).
  • CNC service and repair experience with troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Ability to obtain a PAL (Possession and Acquisition License).
  • Prior manufacturing experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize CNC programs for complex components using CAD/CAM software.
  • Set up, adjust, and qualify CNC and conventional machines for production runs.
  • Operate CNC machines to produce parts according to specifications and schedules.
  • Inspect and verify finished parts and tooling using precision measuring instruments; maintain quality standards.
  • Edit programs and adjust cutters to ensure accuracy.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues with CNC machines, programs, and processes.
  • Perform machine repairs and maintenance of precision measuring instruments.
  • Maintain and service chemical bluing processes and calibrate tools as needed.
  • Collaborate with design engineers and production managers to improve productivity and hit production goals.
  • Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and output.
  • Maintain records of programming, setup sheets, inspection reports, and process adjustments.
  • Develop First Article Inspection reports and report deviations.

We currently have an opening for a CNC Programmer & Setup Technician on a full-time permanent basis. Reporting to the Director of Manufacturing, the Senior CNC Programmer & Setup Technician will be responsible for a range of duties including but not limited to the following:

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and optimize CNC programs for complex components using CAD/CAM software.
  • Set up, adjust, and qualify CNC and conventional machines for production runs.

  • Collaborate with design engineers, production managers, and other team members to enhance productivity and achieve production goals.

Education and Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a CNC Programmer, Setup Technician, or Maintenance Technician, preferably in the firearms industry or a related field.
  • Associate degree in Manufacturing Technology, CNC Programming, or a related field preferred.
  • Post-secondary education in machining, with experience in manual and semi-automated tools and machines.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, SolidWorks) and G-code programming.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality components.
  • Ability to obtain a Possession and Acquisition License (PAL).
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment is an asset.
