Salary range : $54,080 - $91,520 per year (full time basis)

Q-Block Computing is seeking a CNC Machinist to join our innovative team in Canada. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of cutting-edge quantum technologies in sensing, communication, and computation. The candidate will join Q-Block Computing as the lead machinist to assist with the prototype development and the commercialization activities of existing product lines.

Job Summary

As a CNC machinist, you will collaborate with other team members and achieve technical milestones under the guidance of senior leaders. Job duties include the establishment of a new machining shop, CNC machining for rapid prototyping and production, and management of a small team of trainees.

Responsibilities
  • CNC machining for rapid prototyping and production using advanced precision equipment
  • CAD drawing generation and modification to support prototype development and design iterations
  • CAM programming using SolidCAM, Fusion 360, and SolidWorks for efficient toolpath generation
  • Operate and program Datron Neo 2+ CNC mill for high-precision rapid prototyping applications
  • Help establish a prototyping machine shop with focus on quantum technology components
  • General shop maintenance and SOP development
  • Collaborate with cross-functional R&D teams on design for manufacturability (DFM)
  • Rapid prototyping of complex parts with tight tolerances for quantum sensing and communication devices
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the team
Qualifications
  • Machinist Trade Certification, 4th year Apprentice or Machinist Red Seal Endorsement
  • Minimum of 4 years of CNC experience with HAAS / Fanuc milling and lathe machines (G-code)
  • Experience with rapid prototyping environments and iterative design processes
Required Skills
  • Proficiency in CAD software including SolidWorks for drawing generation and modification
  • Advanced CAM programming skills using SolidCAM, Fusion 360, and SolidWorks CAM
  • Experience with Datron Neo 2+ CNC mill or similar high-speed precision CNC milling machine
  • Ability to machine objects with tight machining tolerances and to properly use quality testing / inspection tools
  • Rapid prototyping expertise - ability to quickly transform CAD models into functional prototypes
  • Ability to modify and read CAD drawings, set up and adjust production machines & tools, and maintain inspection reports
  • Programming and setup of high-speed CNC equipment for precision prototyping applications (aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, copper, brass, ceramic, and glass)
  • Experience in fixture design and work-holding systems for precision prototyping operations
  • Demonstrated ability to explore innovative approaches and conduct research into novel machining methodologies for advanced materials including ceramics, hard glass, and optical crystals, as well as operations in ultra-high-vacuum / extreme-high-vacuum and high thermal processing environments
  • General shop maintenance and organization
  • Strong attention to detail, authenticity, and a sense of responsibility in all tasks
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving mindset
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with 3-axis and multi-axis CNC programming for complex geometries
  • Knowledge of materials science relevant to quantum technology applications
  • Familiarity with fixture design and workholding for precision prototyping
  • Experience with minimum quantity lubrication systems and precision cooling applications
