Job summary

CDW Canada is seeking a Cloud Engineer for a 6-month contract with extension potential. The role is hybrid/onsite 3 days per week across Canada, focusing on building and securing cloud infrastructure primarily in Azure with AWS support.

This hands-on position requires delivering scalable, cost-efficient cloud solutions, automating deployments, managing IaC with Terraform/Bicep/ARM, and collaborating with infra, cybersecurity, and application teams.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in information technology, computer science, engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of progressive cloud engineering/infrastructure/DevOps experience.
• Hands-on Azure experience (minimum 2 years).
• Experience with Azure compute, storage, networking, identity, monitoring, and security services.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and manage secure, highly available Microsoft Azure infrastructure.
• Administer Azure subscriptions, resource groups, naming, tagging, budgets, and policy controls.
• Build and support Azure compute, storage, and platform services (VMs, App Service, Functions, Storage, Azure SQL).

One of CDW's Clients is seeking to engage a Cloud Engineer for a 6-month contract with opportunity to extend.

Onsite Model: Hybrid/Onsite 3x a week

Position Overview

The Cloud Engineer designs, implements, secures, and supports the Company’s cloud infrastructure, with primary responsibility for Microsoft Azure and secondary support for Amazon Web Services (AWS). The role builds scalable, resilient, and cost-effective cloud platforms that support applications, data, business operations, and technology modernization across Canada.

This is a hands-on intermediate role for someone who can independently deliver cloud infrastructure, automate repeatable deployments, troubleshoot complex issues, and translate technical requirements into secure, practical solutions for a distributed, multi-site operating business.

• Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, deploy, and manage secure, highly available Microsoft Azure infrastructure across production and non-production environments.
• Administer Azure subscriptions, management groups, resource groups, naming standards, tagging, budgets, and policy controls.
• Build and support Azure compute, storage, and platform services, including Virtual Machines, App Service, Functions, Storage Accounts, Azure SQL, and related services.
• Design and maintain Azure networking, including virtual networks, subnets, network security groups, Azure Firewall, Application Gateway, load balancers, VPN gateways, ExpressRoute, and private endpoints.
• Manage cloud identity and access using Microsoft Entra ID, role-based access control, managed identities, privileged access, and least-privilege practices.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates, with reusable modules, version control, and peer review.
• Automate provisioning, configuration, and operational tasks using PowerShell, Azure CLI, Python, and Azure Automation.
• Build and maintain deployment pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions, including testing, approvals, change controls, and rollback procedures.
• Implement monitoring, alerting, and operational dashboards using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, and related tools.
• Support cloud security and governance through Azure Policy, Defender for Cloud, Key Vault, encryption, backup, logging, and configuration standards.
• Plan and execute workload migrations to Azure, including assessment, landing-zone preparation, migration runbooks, testing, cutover, and post-migration stabilization.
• Manage backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity capabilities using Azure Backup, Azure Site Recovery, and documented recovery procedures.
• Monitor cloud consumption, identify cost optimization opportunities, and implement rightsizing, reservations, lifecycle management, and budget controls.
• Provide secondary support for AWS environments, including EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, RDS, CloudWatch, and CloudFormation or Terraform.
• Maintain architecture diagrams, operational procedures, configuration records, inventories, and support documentation.
• Coordinate cloud activities with infrastructure, cybersecurity, application, data, and vendor teams, and participate in after-hours support for critical incidents and planned changes when required.
• Qualifications and ExperiencePost-secondary education in information technology, computer science, engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
• Four or more years of progressive experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure, systems administration, or DevOps, including at least two years of hands-on Microsoft Azure experience.
• Strong experience implementing and supporting Azure compute, storage, networking, identity, monitoring, governance, backup, and security services.
• Practical experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Azure RBAC, Azure Policy, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Defender for Cloud, and Key Vault.
• Experience developing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and preferably Bicep or ARM templates.
• Strong scripting and automation capability using PowerShell and Azure CLI; Python or Bash experience is an asset.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, source control, and deployment practices using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or equivalent tools.
• Working knowledge of Windows and Linux administration, DNS, TCP/IP, routing, firewalls, load balancing, certificates, and hybrid connectivity.
• Experience with cloud migration, landing zones, high availability, backup, disaster recovery, and cost optimization.
• Working knowledge of AWS services such as EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, RDS, CloudWatch, and CloudFormation is an asset.
• Experience supporting a geographically distributed, multi-site environment; hospitality, retail, restaurants, or another 24-hour operating business is an asset.
• Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Network Engineer Associate, Azure Security Engineer Associate, or Azure Solutions Architect Expert are assets. AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate is also an asset.
• Ability to travel within Canada occasionally and participate in after-hours support when required.

• Cloud resources are provisioned consistently through approved Infrastructure as Code and deployment pipelines.
• Cloud incidents, alerts, and service requests are assessed, escalated, and resolved within established service levels.
• Subscriptions, access, policies, tagging, backup, monitoring, and documentation are consistently maintained.
• Cloud spending is visible, allocated appropriately, and regularly optimized without compromising service reliability.
• Migrations and platform changes are delivered with clear plans, testing, rollback procedures, and minimal business disruption.
• Recurring issues decrease as root causes and operational lessons are converted into sustainable platform improvements.
