Job description
Who we are

At Heart & Stroke our mission is to promote health, save lives and enhance recovery. We are committed to a culture that exemplifies our core values: champion health, practice humility, embrace change, drive impact, learn and grow and be heartfelt as we work together to beat heart disease and stroke.

The opportunity

This is a chance to engineer the cloud backbone for life‑saving digital and data products. Help Heart & Stroke build out its Azure cloud, strengthen observability, and introduce AI‑driven operations across data and digital platforms.

As a Cloud & AI Operations Engineer, you’ll work hands‑on to design, automate, and optimize our Azure cloud infrastructure: supporting both digital products and data platforms. You’ll implement Infrastructure‑as‑Code, CI/CD automation, observability, and AIOps capabilities under the leadership of the Senior Manager, Cloud Infrastructure & AI Operations. Your work will ensure our platforms are reliable, secure, and data‑ready for innovation.

With the flexibility to work from anywhere in Canada, you’ll work on high‑impact cloud platforms that enable Heart & Stroke’s fundraising, engagement, and research efforts: helping Canadians live longer, healthier lives. Here, engineers are empowered to innovate, automate, and build the backbone of a modern digital charity.

If you thrive in a dynamic, cross‑functional environment and are passionate about leveraging cutting‑edge technology to make a real difference, we want to hear from you!

How you will make an impact every day
Cloud Engineering & Operations
  • Design, deploy, and maintain Azure infrastructure for web, mobile, and data analytics environments.
  • Ensure scalability, resilience, cost efficiency, and compliance (PCI, PHIPA).
  • Support incident response and disaster recovery design.
  • Partner across data and application teams to integrate infrastructure with business solutions.
Automation & DevOps
  • Implement Infrastructure‑as‑Code using Terraform, Bicep, and ARM templates.
  • Enhance CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure provisioning and code deployment.
  • Automate operational workflows and optimize resource utilization.
Observability, Monitoring & Data Operations
  • Configure and evolve Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights.
  • Build unified dashboards and alerts to drive proactive performance management.
  • Support administration and the build out of our independent data platform (Azure SQL, Databricks, Data Factory, Synapse, backups, performance tuning).
  • Implement telemetry and tracing that connect infrastructure to application and data insights.
AI Operations & Continuous Improvement
  • Contribute to AIOps initiatives for predictive monitoring and anomaly detection.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to pilot and scale AI‑driven reliability.
  • Document playbooks and standards to improve repeatability and learning.
Who we need
  • 7+ years in infrastructure engineering, with 3+ in Azure cloud environments.
  • Strong experience in automation (Terraform/Bicep), observability, and database operations.
  • Experience designing and implementing cloud infrastructure for digital product and data workloads.
  • Working knowledge of data lakehouse technologies (Databricks, Synapse, Azure data factory) and eagerness to elevate your skills.
  • Working knowledge of AIOps concepts and eagerness to apply AI/ML to operations.
  • Clear, collaborative communicator comfortable in distributed teams.
  • Bonus: Azure certifications (AZ‑305, AZ‑400) and exposure to modern APM or AI monitoring tools.
